I looked in the mirror as I dried my face off. All the tears and ache having to see her lowered into the ground really hurt me. I knew she'd hate to see me crying but that dont mean I wont. She was a part of me too, blood shared or not. That was my lady.
I placed the dark shades back over my eyes. I really don't need anyone to see me like this. Walking out of the bathroom, I bumped into Ryan's mother. I've been meaning to get in touch with her all day, to see if she needed any help but of course, she was busy.
"Thank you for coming to Solange. You didn't have to so I really appreciate everything you've given. Physically and emotionally." Ryan's mother hugged me.
"I did. She was my grandmother too. It wouldn't feel right not coming, She always showed out for me." She nodded her head. I kept her hand in mine and rubbed the back of hers with my thumb. Ryan's mother was definitely like my second mother. She took care of me while I was here in Louisiana.
I'm happy that she always defended me when it came to her daughter. She was actually the one, outside of my own mom, who encouraged me to leave. She actually helped me leave and I will forever be grateful for that. Most parents indulge in their children's behavior or simply refuse to believe it and always make you out to be the issue.
Not her. She's the one who also told me not to bring Ryan home to my mother. Mama knew I was in a relationship but never understood why I wouldn't allow her to meet her. She instilled into me that not everyone is meant to make it to the parent phase. That its intimate, worthwhile.
When they say it's hard to leave a relationship once it becomes abusive. That's true... and no. It doesn't always mean physically abusive either.
You would've never thought she was her mother but her mother simply didn't play that. She didn't raise Ryan to be that kind of woman. I was curious as to why Ryan acted the way she did because her mother or siblings did not act like that. The way she described her mother as she raised her didn't give off the signs.
I held her hand as we walked inside the reception hall. I walked her over to the table that was set for her and her siblings. The grandchildren were surrounded by them. I sat her down and went to say hi to the rest of the family I was in good spirits with.
It wasted no time for me to spot ryan and vice versa. I watched as she paused her conversation and came over to me. I sighed as I braced myself.
"Hey." I smiled at her. She pulled me into a hug and I gave her a light one back. I removed myself the moment I felt like she was being too touchy.
"Thank you for coming and supporting me. It means alot that you did, she loved you." She spoke.
"That's the only reason that I came. She loved me as much as I loved her." She folded her lips in and smiled.
