Mia's Point of View
I don't want to die.
I don't want to die.
I don't want to die.
"Mia," Claudius calls to me in such a sweet voice, that it has to be fake. Claudius never shows that kind of sweetness.
I don't want to die.
I don't want to be sacrificed.
It's all gone wrong.
Claudius gently cups my face with a hand, and kisses my forehead sweetly.
Is he going to sacrifice me? I've failed. I've made him unhappy. I lost control of Alexis. Claudius will be mad with me.
"Everything is alright, Mia," he reassures me in that sweet voice.
He's lying.
He's not that sweet.
I don't want to die.
I need to run, but there's nowhere to run.
There's nowhere to run.
"Mia!" Claudius snaps at me, and I look up at him staring down at me with worry in his eyes.
I feel tears fall from my eyes, and immediately move my hands to wipe them away so Claudius doesn't see them, but he gently grabs my hands and kisses the tears away from my cheeks and the corners of my eyes instead.
"Don't worry, Mia. You're safe. I'll protect you."
A sob slips from my lips.
"Please... don't throw me away. I can do better," I whimper out, begging for my life.
Claudius caresses my cheek, and looks into my eyes.
"I have no intention of letting go of your hand, ever, Mia. Oracles, while convenient, aren't necessary."
His eyes feel like two calm lakes watching me, and trying to draw me into their calmness as he speaks, while his other hand holds me closely.
"Don't worry about Morset's saintess. If she succeeds, then everything is fine, and you become queen. Even if she fails, then every moment she spends out there will be time where we can focus on leveling up optimally without worrying about distractions."
That's... true... I suppose...
"But Alexis is on their side."
Claudius just smiles softly.
"There's nothing Alexis can do to get his throne back other than dooming his own country. The dead cannot be goverened as a kingdom. He will eventually go to the capital to convince the high nobility, and when he does, he will be killed. Then all that will be left, is a girl that doesn't want to hurt others."
Killing Alexis?
It's probably for the best. It's his fault for running off anyway.
