Author's POV:

"She's the child," he said simply.

Aditi blinked. "What?"

"You," the officer repeated, jabbing his finger in her direction. "You're the child he was misbehaving with."

For a moment, there was silence. Then, from inside the cell, Avyan burst into laughter.

"Oh, this is gold," he said, doubling over.

Aditi whirled around to glare at him. "You're laughing?!" she snapped. "I just got called a child! By an actual police officer!"

"Sorry, sorry," Avyan said, though he didn't sound sorry at all. "It's just... I mean, he's not entirely wrong. You were the one who was shouting all those nonsense, now grief about it!"

Aditi's jaw dropped. "Excuse me?"

"Well," Avyan said, grinning, "you are eight years younger than me. So..."

"Don't you dare finish that sentence!" Aditi hissed, her cheeks puffing in anger.

The officer cleared his throat, drawing their attention back to him. "Look, I don't care about your age gap or your drama. All I know is, he was behaving inappropriately with you, and that's enough to put him behind bars."

Aditi groaned in frustration. "I am not a child! I'm twenty years old! I'm in college! I pay my own bills!"

The officer raised an unimpressed eyebrow. "You look about twelve."

"Twelve?!" Aditi's voice went so high-pitched it could've shattered glass. "Do twelve-year-olds wear heels? Or makeup? Or... or have boyfriends?"

"You have a boyfriend?" Avyan asked teasingly, leaning against the bars.

"You know what I mean!" Aditi snapped at him.

The officer crossed his arms. "I don't care what you claim to be. Until I see proof, you're a child as far as I'm concerned."

Aditi threw her hands in the air. "Proof? What do you want me to do? Solve a quadratic equation? Bring my college ID? Or maybe recite the Constitution?"

"That last one might actually be entertaining," Avyan quipped from the cell.

"Shut up, Avyan!" Aditi shouted, her frustration boiling over.

The officer rubbed his temples. "You two are giving me a headache."

"You're giving me a headache!" Aditi shot back. "Arresting my-" She paused, glancing at Avyan. "What even are you to me? My boyfriend? My... I don't know, my-"

"Your husband?" Avyan supplied with a grin.

Aditi turned bright red. "Not helping!"

The officer sighed. "Look, kid-"

"I'm not a kid!" Aditi interrupted, stomping her foot.

"Fine," the officer said, throwing his hands up. "If you're not a kid, prove it."

"How?" Aditi demanded.

The officer thought for a moment. "Do you have a driver's license?"

"Yes!" Aditi exclaimed. Then her face fell. "But... I left it at home."

The officer smirked. "How convenient."

Aditi let out an exasperated groan. "This is ridiculous! Just let him out already!"

"Not until you prove you're an adult," the officer said stubbornly.

Aditi opened her mouth to argue, but before she could, Avyan spoke up.
