Lee Rowoon's POV
It’s strange how your heart can feel so full and heavy at the same time. As I sat between Dada and Mama on the couch, the soft glow of the living room lights made everything feel warm and safe. Bunny was in my lap, his fur worn from all the times I’d clutched him for comfort. Tonight, though, Bunny wasn’t enough. I needed to say it out loud—what had been sitting in my chest for so long.
I looked up at them. Dada had his usual soft smile, the one that always made me feel like I could do anything. Mama was watching me with that gentle, knowing look she always gave when she knew I had something on my mind.
“Dada, Mama…” I started, my voice quieter than I wanted it to be.
Mama leaned closer, her hand warm as it rested on mine. “What is it, sweetheart?” she asked, her voice soft and full of love.
I hesitated, gripping Bunny tighter. My heart felt like it was pounding in my ears, but I needed to do this. “I know… I know you’re not my real parents.”
The words felt strange coming out, even though I’d known them for so long. For a second, everything seemed to freeze. Dada stiffened, and Mama’s hand on mine felt a little heavier. But before they could say anything, I rushed to keep going.
“But that doesn’t matter,” I said, my voice a little stronger now. “Because you’re my real parents in every way that counts.”
I saw the surprise in their eyes, but I didn’t stop. They needed to hear this.
“You’re the ones who take care of me, who love me, who make me feel like I’m the luckiest boy in the world. Dada…” I turned to him, my chest tightening as I looked into his eyes, which were already shining with unshed tears. “You’ve always been my hero. You taught me how to be brave, how to stand up for myself, and how to love. You’ve shown me every day what it means to be a good person.”
I shifted my gaze to Mama, my voice shaking a little now. “And you, Mama… you make me feel safe. You make me feel special, like I’m the most important person in the world. You didn’t have to love me, but you did. You both did.”
I paused, looking down at Bunny for a moment before I looked back at them. “I just wanted to say thank you. For everything. And… I love you both. So much.”
Dada pulled me into his arms so fast I barely had time to react. His hold was tight, and I could hear his voice tremble when he said, “We love you too, Rowoon. More than anything. You are our Son.”
Mama joined the hug, her arms wrapping around both of us. Her tears dampened my cheek, but I didn’t mind. “You’ll always be our son, Rowoon. Always,” she whispered, her voice breaking a little.
In that moment, I felt something shift inside me. All the doubts, all the questions—they didn’t matter anymore. This was my family. These were my parents, and they loved me.
