"For all the girls who crave a love that's gentle in the daylight yet consuming in the dark. The kind of man who holds your hand with warmth, speaks with quiet devotion, and protects you like his own heart-until the door closes. Then, he's all fire...
Two weeks passed since Agni and Komal ji left Diya's house. Her parents were not present as they went away for some work. Now tomorrow it was her birthday and today she was alone in her house. In the morning Agni called her and said her to come at their place but she couldn't make it as her parents were not there.
It was a quiet, starless night, and Diya sat by the window in her room, her heart heavy with the thought of spending her birthday alone. Her parents had to leave town for urgent work, and though she understood, she couldn’t help feeling a pang of loneliness. She glanced at the clock on her bedside table—11:58 PM. Just two minutes until her birthday.
Her phone buzzed with a message. It was from Agni.
Agni: Stay near your window.
She frowned, confused. Before she could reply, the sound of a vehicle stopping outside her house caught her attention. She pushed the curtain aside and peered out into the darkness.
The street was empty—at least, that’s what she thought until the clock struck midnight. Suddenly, the darkness was replaced by a brilliant burst of colors. Fireworks lit up the night sky, their vibrant patterns painting the night sky with shades of gold, blue, red and green. The crackling sounds echoed through the quiet neighbourhood, and Diya's eyes widened in awe.
She stepped out onto her balcony, her heart racing, her lips parting in disbelief. Below, standing by his car, was Agni. He was looking up at her, a small, knowing smile on his face. He held a bouquet of her favourite flowers in one hand, and a small box in the other.
The fireworks continued, each burst illuminating his face, making the moment feel surreal. Diya couldn't help but laugh — a soft delighted sound that escaped her lips despite the lumb forming in her throat.
"Agni!" she called out, her voice tinged with surprise and joy .
He grinned wider , waving at her. "Happy Birthday, Diya!" he shouted over the noise of the fireworks.
Her heart melted at the sight of him standing there, his eyes sparkling with pride and affection. She leaned over the railing, her hands clutching it tightly, as though she needed something to ground her.
“Are you crazy?” she called down to him, her voice playful but filled with emotion. “What if someone calls the police for disturbing the peace?”
Agni chuckled, taking a few steps closer so she could hear him better. “I am the police remember? Perks of the job.”
Diya burst out laughing, the sound mingling with the fading crackle of the fireworks. The sky returned to its quiet, starless state, but the warmth in her heart burned brighter than ever.
Agni motioned for her to come downstairs. "Come on, birthday girl. I have something for you."
She didn’t need to be told twice. Barefoot and still smiling, Diya hurried down the stairs and opened the door. Agni stood there, his tall frame silhouetted by the soft glow of the streetlight. He handed her the bouquet first.
“For the most beautiful woman I know,” he said, his voice warm and genuine.
Diya accepted the flowers, their fragrance mingling with the cool night air. “Agni, this is… I don’t even have words. You didn’t have to do all this.”
He tilted his head, his smile softening. “I wanted to. You deserve it, Diya. And I couldn’t let your birthday pass without making it special for you.”
She looked at him, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. “Thank you,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Agni reached into his pocket and pulled out the small box. “And this is for you,” he said, holding it out to her.
Diya opened it carefully , her breath hitching when she saw the delicate pendant inside — a tiny golden peacock , its intricate feathers studded with colorful stones.

The Pendant
"It reminded me of you" Agni said softly . "Graceful, vibrant and full of life".
She looked up at him, overcome with emotions. Without thinking she stepped forward and hugged him tightly , the bouquet still clutched in one hand.
Agni froze for a second, then wrapped his hands around her, holding her close. "I hope this birthday is everything you wanted," he murmured against her hair.
"It already is," she whispered back. "Because of you ".
They stood there for a while, wrapped in the warmth of the moment, the quiet of the night enveloping them like a soft embrace. The sky may have returned to darkness, but in Diya's heart, it was still lit with the brilliance of Agni's love. After sometime Agni left but before that he kissed her on the forehead and sai
The first rays of the morning sun filtered through the curtains of Diya's room. She worked up slowly, her mind still wrapped in the dreamlike memory of the night before. Agni's surprise , the fireworks lighting up the sky, the thoughtful pendant — it all felt too perfect to be real.
As she sat up in bed, the soft fragrance of the bouquet he had given caught her attention. It was placed carefully on her bedside table , its vibrant colors a reminder of the previous night. Her fingers reached for the pendant around her neck, the golden peacock gleaming in the morning light. A small smile crept onto her lips.
Her phone buzzed. She reached for it, her heart fluttering slightly when she saw Agni's name flashing on the screen.
Agni: Good morning, birthday girl. Did you sleep well?
Diya smiled, quickly typing back.
Diya: Good morning! I did. And I woke up this morning thinking about last night. You're amazing , Agni. Thank you once again.
His reply came almost immediately.
Agni: You deserve so much more, Diya. Are you free this morning? I thought we could go out for breakfast.
