"Dad?" Y/n sat down nervously on a stool at the kitchen island, watching her dad place a knife and a chopping board on the bench.
"Yes, darling?" Liam put his glass down and walked over to the island, standing directly across from Y/n and giving her his full attention. He immediately noticed the anxiety in her tone and the way she was fiddling with the sleeves of her jacket, as she always did when something was on her mind.
"Erm... I- I, uh... I like girls," Y/n stuttered, before finally blurting out the thing she'd been trying to gather the courage to say out loud for a while. The following few seconds of silence was slightly tense for Y/n, who waited impatiently for her dad to react to what she'd just revealed. When he spoke up, she was shocked.
"I guess we have more in common than I thought!" Liam smiled enthusiastically. "What do you want for dinner tonight?"
"W- wait, what?" Y/n mouth hung open, her eyes betraying every ounce of surprise she felt.
"Dinner! You know, it's this meal that we have at the end of the day, typically something healthy and nutritious, and-" Liam's sarcastic response was cut off by a small chuckle from Y/n, though her expression showed confusion and relief.
"I know that, but aren't you disappointed? Don't you wish I was normal? Don't you care that I just told you I like girls? You're not mad?"
Liam looked his daughter straight in the eye and didn't break contact for a second. "My amazing girl, I wouldn't ever be mad at you for simply being yourself. Liking girls is just another part of you, and I love you for the beautiful, intelligent, adventurous, fantastic person you are and nothing will ever change that. Do you hear me? I love you so much, and I'm so incredibly proud of you every day. Believe it, because I won't ever let you think otherwise, not for one second." Liam watched as Y/n let a single tear of relief and happiness roll down her cheek, and he made his way around the island to wrap her in a tight embrace. Neither one of them spoke for a few minutes, the air filled with a safe, comfortable silence.
"I love you, Dad."
"And I love you, my baby. And, look at it this way; at least now I don't have to worry about you getting pregnant before you're ready." Liam's fatherly point of view sent Y/n into a fit of laughter she couldn't control, and he just couldn't help but join in.
