Third Person POV
Jeongguk was so, so fucking glad that he heard his phone ringing in the middle of such a loud club. He had felt the buzz of it and took it out.
Not many people call him since he had to change his number here in England but he saved all the contacts from the older one.
So when he saw 'petal💐' on the screen of his phone, he had forgotten how Taehyung could have his new number and immediately picked it up.
But he was tongue tied. Be couldn't speak and he thinks so was Taehyung because all he hears was silence.
But he was sure his own beating heart was so loud that Taehyung could probably hear that at least.
He knew Taehyung was listening, that the call wasn't disconnected or anything because he could hear the laundry of Taehyung's place running.
It made a specific squeaky sound that Jeongguk had often called out but Taehyung never had the time to look at it.
So yes, he knew Taehyung could hear him if he said something but they both stayed quiet and Jeongguk didn't even find it uncomfortable or anything. He just smiled.
But if Taehyung had said one word, a single word and worse, called his name, Jeongguk knew he'd drop everything here and run back to Seoul for him.
"Hey, Jeongguk! Come on man, we're going to cut the cake!" Jeongguk his fellow colleague's voice but he could care less about his own birthday cake being cut.
Then he heard the faintest of gasps and the call ended.
Taehyung would've just gotten up. He would've precisely measured the time to call right on midnight for his birthday.
So what if he said nothing. For Jeongguk, this was the best present ever.
Jeongguk did call him after, quite a few times and he knew Taehyung won't pick up but it still made him feel a sense of calm. Like his whole day, probably his whole stay that was left would be spent in content just with this one call.
Jeongguk pocketed his phone and made his way to his colleague, who was eagerly waiting for some other colleagues just so they could cut the cake.
"Someone's in a good mood." Wil teases him but Jeongguk only told him to shut the fuck up.
His birthday was done and his fellow colleagues went to their respective works because many of them couldn't be gone for long, they were tending in a club after all.
Wil, short for Wilfred was the only guy in the same time slot with Jeongguk as they tended the bar from 9pm to 2am.
Yes, Jeongguk was working as a bartender. It's been a month and a few days actually. After a few months of therapy, his therapist, Ms. Ahn advised him to take a job if he wants, just for the normality of it all.
Jeongguk couldn't think of much except this, really. It's not bad actually. He's quiet good at making drinks and he's very creative in them too. Being an owner of the club himself comes with its own perks.
Wil was a nice guy. Funny, sort of a loser but not the annoying kind. He'd often are the shift not boring with his nonstop chatter but sometimes Jeongguk just has to tell him to shut the fuck up.
Therapy---wasn't really a nice time but it was bearable. Countless times Jeongguk was on the verge of running back to Seoul and be in Taehyung's arms.
But the thought of fucking up and ruining it all, hurting Taehyung made him stay and made him work on the promise he made to himself and Taehyung.
