Beginning The Investigation

(3rd person POV)

After two weeks of looking for leads on any of the missing people and not finding anything Midoriya was starting to grow anxious and desperate. Two weeks of checking the areas where everyone was last seen, two weeks of checking in with family members and friends of the people missing, two weeks of families begging him to find their loved ones, Two long weeks that seemed to drag on, and pull Midoriya into a depression. The fact that he hadn't found anything was something that was gnawing at him, he felt like he was looking over something obvious but he still couldn't see it.

During his patrol he would still smile and wave at people interacting with some of his fans here and there, all while he was hiding his stress and anxiety from everyone, everyone except the past users who tried helping in any way they could. Regardless he kept looking for anything that could help him find these people. Sometimes on his patrol he would run into Mindy and she'd lift his spirits some, but most of the time he was just thinking about the case. Today was no different, he was helping at FEAST giving people food wearing a kind smile on the outside, on the inside he was elsewhere. He was brought back to the present when he heard something interesting.

"Did you hear, Jimmy's been missing for a couple days?" A man said while eating a sandwich. A man across from him responded to his question. "Yea, last I heard of him he found an easy way to get rich, then he's just gone. Come to think of it, I heard a handful of folks saying the same thing." While Midoriya listened in he felt that he finally got a lead he'd have to talk with Detective Quin about this later, but for now he continued to listen. "You think they were being honest, you know about getting rich?" "I doubt it man, ain't no such thing as easy money." The first man went silent for a moment while his friend took a bite of his food. "Well... er I am not so sure, I had some guy come up to me a couple nights ago, asking if I was interested in making easy money." "C'mon man you know people don't just hand out money, there's always a catch. What the guy even offer you?" "He just said to meet him at the docks and then wait." Midoriya was listening to every word he just needed to know which docks and he'd investigate them later. "Really, he just told you to go to the docks and wait? Frankie, that sounds suspicious as hell." "He said meet him at pier 17 and that he'll be there."

It was at this point that Midoriya had enough details to follow the lead later tonight, but first he wanted to warn the man. "Excuse me, sir." The two men looked at him and smiled a bit. "Hey what's up Deku?" Frankie said casually used to seeing the teen here every so often. "First off I must apologize for eavesdropping on your conversation, second I must warn you that there have been a string of disappearances and what you were talking about could be connected." Frankie and his friend gained a shocked expression at this with Frankie's friend speaking up. "I told you it was suspicious Frankie, thanks for looking out for us kid, not many do." Midoriya nodded and then asked Frankie what the man who approached him looked like. "I didn't see his face. He was wearing a surgical mask or something with a cap and hood over his head, but he was also wearing an all black suit, looked fancy and about my height if I had to guess. Midoriya nodded while writing everything down, he then thanked the two and told them to be careful, after that he made his way out of the building and called the Detective.

"Hello detective Quin it's Deku, I think I've found a lead in the case." Midoriya said over the phone. "Good job, tell me what you know." Quin ordered while writing in her notebook. "Well, firstly I need to confirm something, were any of the people missing homeless?" The detective quirked an eyebrow and looked through the case file before responding. "No, everyone missing had stable jobs and homes, you should know that you reviewed it." She said sharply. "Yes I did that is why I was confirming, now onto what I found, when I was helping at FEAST today I heard a couple men talking about a handful of their friends going missing, and that a man would come up to them offering free money if they went to pier 17, this could be connected to the original twelve missing people or could be something else, but regardless I will investigate the pier tonight." After writing down everything that Midoriya had said she sighed tiredly. "I don't know what would be worse, this being connected or not being connected at all. If you're going out there try not to cause too much trouble, and keep me posted." Quin said before the line went silent. Now with a lead Midoriya went back into the FEAST building and said he would help another time and that he had something very important to look into, the woman said she understands and thanked him for his help today.

After a couple hours Midoriya went to the aforementioned pier, and took note of anything that would stand out to him. There were a few boats that looked pretty old, a loading area with a roof and a crane, there was also a warehouse surrounded by a handful of shipping containers. "Um JARVIS, is this pier owned by anyone?" Midoriya asked the AI while moving to get a closer look at the boats and loading area. "No sir, it was originally owned by a fishing's company, although the said company closed years ago." Midoriya hummed at the information and stepped onto a boat and investigated everywhere. "JARVIS, would you please record all of this? I'd like to be able to review this later if possible." "At once sir." With that started Midoriya looked on the deck for anything that would stand out, after sweeping the deck for clues Midoriya went into the small cabin area seeing two small cots and some cabinets. After a moment of searching Midoriya started looking under the cots and found something. A simple black wallet that looked newer than everything surrounding it, opening it he found the ID and had JARVIS run a scan. "Jane Deere, she is one of the missing people." Midoriya nodded grimly but continued searching the boat. After an hour or two of searching and finding nothing else Midoriya hopped off the boat, and went to start searching the other nearby boats.

(Deku POV)

'This is weird, I only found one wallet of the twelve original missing people, and there isn't anything else on the other three boats.' I thought to myself while making my way towards the warehouse. 'Izuku it's late, don't push yourself too much.' Nana said as she appeared next to me with a worried facial expression. "I know, but this is one of the first clues I've had since detective Quin approached me, I'm not gonna give up, this wallet alone proves that these people might have been kidnapped, and maybe the rest of the wallets were thrown into the water and this one was forgotten about, or maybe this was Oman left her wallet here as a clue, or..." 'I thought you stopped that mumbling habit a while back, kid.' Banjo appeared on my left side opposite Nana. 'Listen to the 7th kid, call it for tonight and look again tomorrow.' I sighed but before I left the area I looked inside the warehouse, without a word to bright flashlights mounted on my shoulders popped up, I was momentarily surprised before moving forward. "It's completely empty." I said dejectedly while looking toward the shipping containers, 'I'll leave but I want to see if I could put a tracker on the containers in case they're missing tomorrow. Is that fine?' I said to the vestiges, they agreed. "JARVIS, is there a way to track the containers?" "Yes sir, I can put a small tracker on each of them and you will be able to know their real time location." I nodded and put a tracker on each container before releasing a yawn and jumping into the air and activating Float heading back to STARK tower. 'I need to send the picture of the ID to Detective Quin.' I thought while pulling out my phone seeing the recording of my investigation already in my gallery, I sent it to Detective Quin and continued my flight back.
