10 minutes later we got to the hospital and I sprinted to the front desk. "Hi, I'm Savannah Hernandez. I'm here for my mother, Yesenia Delgado." I told the lady there. She stopped typing and looked up from her computer screen and over her glasses.

"Ah, yes Ms. Delgado. She is in room.." She typed something in on the computer pad and spoke again, "407." I muttered a thank you and ran to the elevator. The elevator dinged saying that an elevator has arrived to take us to our destination. Me, Ryan, and Ryan's mom, Mrs. Kayne, all stepped into the elevator. I frantically pressed the 4 button on the number pad and we made our way up.

We arrived at the 4th floor and I hopped out first looking for my mom's room number. 401, 402, 3, 4, 5, 406, and 407. I thought as I pushed the door open and walked in. The first thing I saw was my mom laying on the hospital hooked up to an IV dripping salt water into her veins, and her body connected to a heart monitor. She was just sleeping, not moving. I swear, if it wasn't for her the monitor next to her bed beeping normally, I would've thought she was dead.

A doctor stepped in behind us and motioned towards the chairs on the opposite wall of the bed, telling us to sit down. "So what's wrong with her? You said you would tell me once I got here." I asked. He nodded his head and opened his mouth to talk.

"Your mom has a condition where her large intestines is engulfing her small intestines. Has your mom ever had any cosmetic surgery?"

"Yes she had gastric bypass a couple months ago. Why?" Gastric bypass is a surgery where surgeons go in and make your stomach smaller to reduce your eating. In the process it makes you skinnier.

"Gastric bypass? Well that surgeon messed up pretty bad during the procedure. So me and a couple other surgeons are going to go into her stomach and make everything better. There's uh something else too... Something worse..." He trailed off not making eye contact with me.

"What could be worse than this? The only thing worse is-" I looked right into his eyes because I knew what could be worse. Death. "No! She can't -! No that can't happen! You have to promise me that won't happen! If she dies then I'd have to leave everything I know! You can't let her die!" I broke down and cried into my hands not caring what anyone else would think. She can't die. Ryan pulled me back so I was now crying into his shoulder. Mrs. Kayne just cried silently by the door. She knew my mom, too, they were friends, but not close friends. Once upon time, my mom wasn't this messed up.

"I will do the best I can to keep her alive. The surgery will take about 2 hours so you can wait in our waiting room or go home. It's your choice." It's 10 o'clock. I'm going to have to stay here. If she lives she owes me big time.

"I'll stay." He nodded his head and walked out. I wiped my teary face and got up. "You guys don't have to stay. I'll be fine."

"No, Honey. We're going to stay here with you." Mrs. Kayne said in reassurance. We all trudged out of the room to the lobby and waited. And waited. And waited. Well, you get the picture.

Two hours passed and finally the doctor came out with an update on the situation. "The surgery went very well and your mom will be better than ever!" He said with a smile on his face. I blew out the breath I was keeping in and sighed with relief. This was great! I turned around and gave Ryan the biggest hug ever which he excitedly returned.

"I'm so glad you're here." I whispered in his ear.

"Me too." I felt him smile against my skin which caused me to smile, too.

"Can you please tell her that I went home and I will hopefully see her tomorrow?" I asked the doctor.

"Yeah. Definitely." He smiled wide and I turned around and walked out of the door with a smile on my face.
