"I like you." I looked up at him speechless. I didn't think I heard him correctly. I just stood there with my eyebrows furrowed and my mouth hanging open. "I knew I shouldn't have told you. Just forget it." he started to walk away, but I stopped him.
"Wait. Cayden. Don't leave. It's just, I don't think you do." he gave me a look as if asking me if I was crazy. "Well, since you just broke up with Lily, I think everything in your mind doesn't make sense." he rose his eyebrows up higher and leaned forward. "It's just like when someone gets dumped and they go running to their best friend and end up having sex." I said trying to defend my observation. Cayden adverted his eyes to the ground which made me feel bad. I set a hand on his arm and said, "Just wait until you get over Lily completely and then you can see if you still like me." he nodded his head and awkwardly smiled.
"You're really smart you know that?" I know he could sense the awkwardness so he shook his head. "Alright, let's put all this behind us and go back to being best friends. Deal?" he asked putting out his hand.
"Deal." I said shaking his hand and smiling, but he pulled me in and hugged me. He squeezed me tight and I did too. "This isn't helping the whole friendship thing." he pulled away and took a step back.
"Couldn't agree more." I laughed and he splashed me with water. I looked at him in shock trying not to smile. He started to run away, but I jumped on his back before he could get away. "You better hold on tight." he held onto my legs and started running through the water. I held on for dear life and started giggling. He finally put me down in the cold water sending shivers down my spine.
"Gracias, Senor Cayden." I said with a curtsy. He chuckled and bowed.
"De Nada, Senorita Savannah." I laughed with my hand on my stomach.
"I didn't know you could speak Spanish."
"Well, Dora the Explorer is a great teacher." I threw my head back and laughed even harder. "I'm just kidding. English was actually my second language."
"Oh, that's cool. I had to learn how to speak Spanish when I was 11 because my Nanny only spoke Spanish. It was just really hard communicating with her since my mom was out all the time." I said with a skittish laugh. He nodded his head and pursed his lips.
"I think you're pretty great." he said surprising me.
"How so?"
"You are a great sister and you make them believe that everything's okay when your mom is a total bitch to you." I looked down at the water and Cayden looked over at Ryan and Lily. "Ryan's a really lucky guy." I smiled slightly and looked over at my boyfriend.
"Thank you, Cayden." our attention was taken away from each other when Bella called out to us.
"We're going to Heusen's Island. Come on." she waved and gestured her hands for us to go back. Lily ended up going with Bella, so it was just Ryan, Cayden, and I.
"We have to go pick up my cousin while they go get the wood."
"How do I get there?"
"Turn right." he did as I said and we were now driving through the Naval Base. "Now turn right again then make a left into the housing community." I hadn't been over there in a while considering my mom and aunt Jessie weren't really on speaking terms. "It's this house. Be right back." I opened the car door and jogged up the stairs. I knocked on the door and Xavier answered it.
"Savvy!" Xavier yelled hugging my legs.
"Hey, little man. How are you?" I bent down to eye level and kissed his cheek.
"Good. I missed you, though." he said kissing my cheek.
"I missed you too, baby boy. Where's your sister?" I asked standing up.
