The movie ended and it was 2:30, the girls should be getting home soon. I heard a ping along with a vibration in my pocket meaning I just got a text message. It was from Alex. 'Are you with Ryan? I have to tell you guys something. It's bad.' I hesitantly texted her back telling her that I am with him. 'Thalia was in a car accident...' I looked back at Ryan with wide eyes as he looked down at the screen reading what I had just read.
I frantically pressed Alex's collar ID and dialed her number. My heart was beating rapidly in my chest to a point where I could hear it. I then heard the line pick up. "Hey, Sav." I could tell by her shaking voice that she was crying.
"Is Thalia going to be okay?" I asked without greeting her. My voice seemed faint. She didn't answer, it was as if I was only talking to myself. Her voice then came through the line, but this time she could barely choke the words out.
"Uh, Savannah, she's not doing too well." Tears started to fill my eyes while I leaned forward into the phone.
"What's wrong with her?" I barely managed to get that question out. I felt Ryan rub small circles into my back.
"She's-" Alex was cut off by her soft sobbing. "You know, Savannah, you should just come to the hospital." Before I could ask why, the line went dead. I dropped the phone to the floor and hid my face into my forearm. I could feel the tears pooling in the nook of my elbow.
"What happened to Thalia?" Ryan whispered as he leaned forward to be in the same stance as me. I turned my body and leaned into his shoulder. He welcomed me with open arms and stroked my hair while my tears seeped through his shirt.
"Alex told me it was bad... and when I asked her what happened, she told me to just come down to the hospital." I sobbed harder, tears were now pouring out of my eyes. "Ryan, I'm scared."
"I know, baby girl." he hugged me tighter and kissed the crown of my head. "I'm going to call Bella and see if she can come take us to the hospital so you can see Thalia. Okay?" I nodded my head and sat up slightly so he can get up, then laid back on the couch cushion. Ryan grabbed his phone and tapped in Bella's name to call her.
"Hello?" I heard her say over speaker phone.
"Hey, did you hear the news?" Ryan asked her while playing with one of the threads latched onto the side of the couch. Bella sighed into the phone.
"Yeah, it's terrible." I heard a sniffle before she continued with, "how's Savannah holding up? I know they were close." Ryan looked over towards me and let out a hard sigh.
"She's pretty upset." he grabbed onto my hand and put it up to his lips.
"I bet. I'm heading over to the hospital right now. Do you want me to swing by and pick you guys up?" I wiped away a tear that slid down my cheek.
"Yeah, please." he gave me a slight smile with his loving eyes that somehow told me that everything was going to be okay.
"Alright, I'll be there in 10 minutes." there was rustling in the background and the sound of her apartment door opening.
"Okay, bye."
"Bye." the line went dead and Ryan leaned back in his seat.
"Bella will be here soon." he looked out the window and saw the wet glass signifying it was raining outside. "I'll go get you a jacket. You should put on your shoes." he got off the couch and ran out of the movie room, disappearing into the hallway. I slowly got up from the couch to put on my Keds that were by the door.
After about 20 minutes, we finally got to the hospital. I saw Alex in the waiting room with her back to us talking to Mrs. Hampson, Thalia's mom. Mrs. Hampson was a wreck, she had her reading glasses on top of her forehead, her hair in a messy bun, yoga pants on, and bedroom slippers. It's weird for someone that is a strict pantsuits-only woman. "Hello, Savannah." Mrs. Hampson squeaked out.
