The burning sensation returned, making Marisa look back down at her forearm that once glowed, only now it was covered in black writing.
Part of it being a name. The other part being a clock. A clock that ticked down one second at a time right before her eyes.
She rubbed the black on her skin with her finger, but it didn't move, not even the part that continued to change before her.
"Jesus." She whispered. "Death clock." Marisa's eyes found Allison as she laid unconscious on the nemeton in nothing but her flannel as Marisa pulled her constantly buzzing phone from her pocket, ignoring all the calls and texts from her friends and finding one name before putting the phone to her ear.
"Hello?" Lydia's voice filled her ears.
"I need your help. You remember where the nemeton is?"
"Marisa...what's happening? How do you know I found the nemeton?"
"I can't answer any questions right now, Lydia. Please...it's important. I'll send you the coordinates just in case. I need you to bring a fresh pair of clothes. The whole thing. Underwear, shoes. A coat would be great..."
"Marisa...what's happening? You're scaring me."
"Allison's alive. I brought her back to life." Silence defended her surroundings, including Lydia's end of the call. "Shes unconscious. I...I have to go. I don't have much time."
"H...how is she alive? How is this possible?" Lydia gasped out through ragged breaths.
"Lydia. Do what I said. Please. And hurry. I have to go." She pulled the phone from her cheek, ending the call as she stared at her unconscious sister.
Marisa kneeled down on the nemeton beside Allison, brushing her hair from her face and laying her coat over Allison's body. "You're gonna be okay." She whispered, staring at her sister's face. "I'm so sorry." A tear slipped from her eye, falling onto Allison's cheek. She wiped it away before pulling herself off of the tree trunk, pulling out her phone once again and dialing another number.
"Hello." The familiar deep voice filled her ears. It had been days since they last spoke. He called, she ignored, but now she was calling him.
"I need help." She breathed out, trying to keep her emotions at bay.

Rain pelted down on top of the town by the time Marisa pulled up to the animal clinic after finally listening to all of the messages from her friends. And judging by the tracker she had put on Lydia's car, she knew Lydia was already at the nemeton, already with Allison.
"Marisa." Scott spoke out as she closed her car door after her, stepping closer to where he stood underneath the stabbing rain.
Marisa stopped before him. She opened her mouth, but nothing came out. She tried again, but still, there was nothing. She watched Scott's eyes soften as they stared at her, as her lip quivered, and she felt every ounce of emotion begin to hit her.
His arms wrapped tightly around her, holding her against him like his life depended on it. Still, she tried to keep it all in, tried to not shower him with apologies for how she had been acting, even if it worked out in her favor.
"It worked." She finally forced out, making Scott's body freeze against her. He took a step back from her, his eyes finding hers again as she took in a shaky breath. "It's Allison. I brought her back to life."
"Wha..."
"Lydia's with her now. I uh...I had to come check on everyone before I left..."
"Left? You're leaving? What do you mean?"
