Drunken Incident

Having recovered from the meeting, I went upstairs to get ready to go out. There was a big party happening to welcome Maxi to the school, only the 'exclusive' people were meant to go but me and George decided to attend anyway, as the jesters you might say. Anyway, I don't think they would have minded; I used to go to school with Charlotte (the main one). When we were younger we used to hold hands in the playground and play doctors and nurses. You could say we had a mutual understanding. Neither of us would ever then anybody about the past; if I did that I could come to her parties and she was allowed to say that she was out with me to her Dad when really she was on a date with her 20 year old boy friend. She could get away with it because her dad treats me like a son.

So we turned up at Charlotte's house, 4 Redbrook Close, and went in. The house was packed. This happened every time. It would start with 10 people and then they would tell 10 people and it would keep going until the house couldn't take anymore. As we walked in we took in the surroundings, clocked were the bathroom, bedroom and food was and then went for it. For us that meant getting a can of larger down our necks. I didn't want to get to drunk because I had hope Maxi would talk to me at some point of the night.

About an hour in I spotted Maxi, she looked a bit-out-of-it. I went over to see if she was okay but I was over whelmed by the smell of cider on her breath. I was stunned to say the least; I didn't think she was like that. I asked her "don't you think you've had enough?" She told me she was sticking to apple juice, she clearly wasn't. Out of the corner of my eye I saw six boys from the football team laughing at her. I casually went over to them (us rugby players aren't meant to talk to the footy boys). I didn't care, I was way over six foot, and they were all a hell of a lot shorter. I mean my twelve-year-old sister is taller than some of them. I started talking to them about stuff and school and then all of a sudden I jumped into "Why did you give her a drink?! She's out of it!" All they had to say after that sounded like a bunch of monkey grunts. I left and went back to Maxi; she was out cold on the sofa. I didn't know what to do with her so I yanked George out of a conversation with this good looking girl (I felt a bit bad), but he came over and told me to pick her up and take her home. I had no idea where she lived so I asked Charlotte. She told us one road away - Pathway Crescent, the one with the blue door. We didn't have a lift so George and I made our way down the driveway past all the drugged out nutters on the grass.

I rang the doorbell and some huge bloke answered. "Mr Williams?" I inquired.

"Yer. What of it?"

"Well, it’s about , Maxi." He looked down at her and his expression was blank. He was saying she was a 'punk' kid then I looked at her, she looked different to what she did at school. She was in a striped shirt with ripped sleeves. Her straight, soft brown hair was let loose unlike the ponytail she wore at school, and she had a belly piercing. It was a good look for her, she wore a studded belt but she wasn’t emo, it was slightly punkish but still a little girly. The man went on to say that she couldn't handle her drink. I didn't want to be rude but I couldn't leave him thinking she was a 'rebel'! I think my exact words were "she was tricked, OKAY! Some boys told her it was apple juice. Shut up for God’s sake!" Then me and George left. He was useless. He didn't do anything. I told him what I thought as well. I felt a bit bad but all I was thinking was about how I'd have to go to school tomorrow and face everyone, even Maxi!

I woke up and went to school the next day. The first lesson was sports studies- all the footballers were there. All lesson they were acting drunk falling on the floor wanting me to pick them up and carry them home. It was shameful, two hours of being laughed at. After break I knew that it would be worse. I'd have to face Maxi!

I turned up to geography again. I saw Maxi; she didn't really look at me. I was coughing and sniffing to make her look at me but then Mr Linken worked out what I was trying to do, and he made me step outside. He asked me why I was doing what I was doing. I told him I had done something and I didn't know how she felt about it. He told me to buck up and talk to her. After that little conversation in the hallway we returned to the lesson so I got on and actually learnt something. When the double lesson ended it was lunchtime. As usual George and I went to the common room and ate beans on toast. I saw Maxi whilst we were eating. I didn't do what Sir advised, I ignored her. I think it got to her because when I didn't look at her I could see her out of the corner of my eye and she was coughing and sniffing just as I was, trying to get my attention. When lunch finished I had two free periods and I took this chance to catch up on my homework that I hadn’t done the night before. It felt so good that it was Friday. I was already tired of school.
