The day of the hearing came around faster than I had hoped. You know when they say things that you're looking forward to take longer to arrive... well unfortunately that's just the things you want to arrive, and this was defiantly not something that I wanted to arrive.

George was such a good friend to both me and Maxi during the whole thing, he didn’t get angry when we didn’t want to talk or even frustrated when we couldn’t go to a party with him. He was just there when we needed him. He said that once, he had heard somebody slagging us off and popped him right in the mouth. I know he had always been a brother to me, but through those few months he was the best brother you could ask for.

Maggie, as well, did everything she could for us. She tried to make sure that we had enough money from the council, and encouraged us to look into getting our own place. Julie (yes, we were now on a first name basis), said we could stay at hers, because she had plenty of space, but I wasn’t too keen on that idea, and neither was Maxi, seeing as it had played host to many a beating for Maxi. I didn’t want our baby to grow up in such a tainted home.

Maggie was just so strong. She took us to the six month scan and she was so excited. She swore she could tell it was a girl but we really didn't want to know. She took us out shopping for the essentials; a brand new cot and changing station. Maxi was really fussy about everything being 'neutral'; no pinks, no blues, just a hell of a lot of brown, cream, and yellow. She only had one real argument with Julie, and it wasn't about anything major. Maxi's grandmother knitted some blue booties and Julie thought they could go straight in with the baby clothes, but Maxi refused and told her she didn't want anything to be jinxed. Otherwise Julie has been amazing - Maxi was too big to go to school, but primarily she was sick of all the dirty looks. She stayed at home with Julie, who looked after her.

The trial was coming up. Greg was the first witness so Maxi didn’t have to be involved straight away, but I wanted to go and sit in the public viewing point for moral support, and Maxi said it was a good idea because he didn’t have anybody else, he didn’t involve his friends with family affairs.

This is a really short chapter but all the real drama is about to kick off in the next chapter.
