14th November

Lilly was still sick, it had been over two weeks. Maggie got a new phone for her birthday from her boyfriend (that was fun). She also had a 50th birthday party but because Lilly was still sick she couldn't come. Mrs Dudley didn’t come either, she was looking after Lilly. Mrs Dudley was from over the road, she's doing well for a 71-year-old, she can be a bit forgetful which is always good; we get about four presents each birthday just because she can't remember. Also our rugby team got into the final; we were playing that Sunday.

Due to the upcoming match, we had a lot of training that week. I felt as if I’d crack even if the lightest feather fell on me. But there was one good thing that came out of that week of agony, Maxi came to watch every training session, and after the last session she told me she was bringing josh to the game.

On game day, I spotted Maxi doing up Josh's coat as we warmed up. It was quite sweet, I thought, she’d make a great mum one day.

The game began; the toss went to GRC (Guilford rugby club).  The start was rough and within ten minutes, our prop (James) was down from a blow to the head - he ended up with mild concussion. Our sub, Will didn't have much chance, GRC were trashing us; James still had concussion and Daniel and Callum had been rushed to hospital, all this before half time. The whistle blew and we were all disheartened.

At the break I went over to Josh and introduced myself. (I have a little confession, I can actually do sign language! I'm proud of that.) So I said hello to Maxi and then started having a little conversation in Sign Language. I noticed Maxi was looking at me all dreamy. It felt nice to have her look at me like that instead of me looking all puppy eyed at her. I looked back at her and smiled. Then they called me back over. It was time for the final half.

The last forty minutes couldn't of gone better. We came back and ended up winning 13:11. It took some time for it to sink in, whether that had anything to do with the head injures we had all suffered or not. "You've won!" people cheered. We all looked at each other, astonished. We'd won our first tournament in three years! Well would you look at that, ever since mum and dad. I guess parental support means a lot. I ran over to Maxi and Josh. Josh high fived me and then me and Maxi stared into each other eyes. I felt as though I should kiss her, sweep her up in my arms and have the most intense snog of my life! I didn't, though the kiss still happened. I guess she thought the same thing, minus the sweeping part.

After the game, the team went to Nando's to celebrate. I walked Maxi and Josh to the car park to meet their dad. He was taller than I remembered, and I wouldn't like to say he was fat; but I imagine he could throw his weight around if he wanted to. He was bald. I walked the two of them to the car and in that short journey I held Maxi's hand, we were acting like a pair of school kids. We stopped outside an ocean blue Ford Mondeo. As we came towards Mr Williams, the grip of our hands loosened and my hands began to sweat. "Daddy, this is Slick" she said.

"Slick? Slick? What kind of a name is that?" he said in a deep manly voice, he was arrogant and big headed.

"Um, it's a nick name sir" I told him. Josh got into the car with his dad. I didn't want to leave her, so I asked her if she wanted to come with me. She giggled.

"Hang on, two seconds." She ran to the other side of the car, to her dad's door, and the window rolled down. "Actually dad, I think I'm going to go back with Slick," she told him sweetly. He looked to me and beckoned me over.

"NO FUNNY BUSSINESS!" I nodded my head in agreement.
