"Now, Victoria, you must hold the blade steady," my father said to me, grabbing my hand and holding it so I wasn't shaking anymore.
He pointed the blade at the red target, letting go and telling me to throw it. I aimed at the target and threw the blade. The blade ended right in the middle of the red target.
"Well done, my child," my father said, putting his hand on my hair and ruffling it up.
"Daaad!" I moaned at him, moving his hand off my hair and fixing it. My father laugh at me for my actions. Then, we heard the cellar door open.
"Honey, I've told you, don't let her near the blades! She could cut herself one of these days!" my mother said, walking down the creaky, broken staircase.
"Hazel, I'm just helping our daughter protect herself!" my father said. Meanwhile, my mother snatched the blade from me, grabbed my hand, and dragged me up the broken staircase. She kept a tight grip on my hand until we got to my bedroom door, where she left go it in order to take my bedroom key out of her dress pocket. My mother went to the door and unlocked it. Pushing the door open, she grabbed my hand again, gently this time, and brought me inside.
My mother sat me down on my bed, then went over to grab the wooden barrier and place it against the window. The room went pitch black. Then, I heard my mother's footsteps walk over to my desk, where I heard the noise of matches. Suddenly, all I saw the candle on my desk light up. However, it only made a little bit of light.
''Your Father doesn't understand what I mean by 'young lady," my mother said, walking to my door. I heard her sigh before she turned around. ''Goodnight, Victoria, please don't go outside again,'' she said to me.
"I won't, Mother," I lied to her. ". . and goodnight.''
She smiled at me before closing the door and locking it. I waited until I heard her footsteps get further away from my door before I jumped up from my bed and ran to my window. Removing the wooden barrier, I placed it against the wall and opened the window. I mounted the window ledge and grabbed onto the bricks. Then, I began climbing up until one of the brick started to loosen.
''Oh no!'' I jumped and grabbed onto the roof's edge. I looked down to see the brick hit the ground, almost striking a dog and scaring some drunks. I laughed before dragging myself up onto the roof. Slowly, I walked up the roof until I found the place where I always sat at night time. Sitting down, I looked out over the city.
All I could see was smoke and buildings, just like every other night, and I could see the big clock, standing above everything else. The air wasn't clear, because of the factories, but I was used to it. My mind was in a different place, until I saw something that caught my eye. I stood up and looked closer.
I saw fire. The fire was spreading fast. My eyes widened. I ran down and jumped off the roof, grabbing onto the ledge and swinging into my room. I had just landed on my floor when I heard the door unlock, and it wasn't my father.
''Oh shit! He never told us they had a daughter! Oh shit! It's Harold's niece!'' one of the men said to the others.
Who are they?
''Her parents are going to hear us. We have to take her with us, for she has seen us',' one of the other men said. ''We need to go, now! Grab her!'' They nodded, grabbing me. I tried to restrain, but I was to weak for them.
''Victoria!' I heard my father.
''Oh shit! We need to go, now!'' They all ran to the window and jumped, with me on one of their backs.
''DADDY!'' I screamed.
''I'm coming, Victoria!'' I heard my dad scream back at me.
I looked up, but couldn't see my house anymore. I just heard screaming. The next thing I knew, I blacked out.
