Spencer was standing in her hall, looking as awkward as she felt. He was wearing one of his cute sweater vests, and he'd attempted to brush back his hair. She tried to smile, but it came off as more of a grimace.

"H-hey," Diana stuttered out.

"Um, hi," he replied, cheeks flaming. He held out a rose. "I got this for you."

"No thorns this time?" she remarked with a light grin. He blushed and nodded.

"No thorns," he confirmed. Diana set it gently on her side table, knowing the hiding Garcia would put it in a vase. She turned back to him, giving him a real smile.

"Ready?" she asked, slipping on her jacket.

"Let's go," he answered. Just before Di shut the door, he called "Bye, Garcia!" She blushed as they went to the elevator. They made small talk all the way to the restaurant. It was a new Italian place, and it was crowded.

"Sorry," Spencer said rather loudly to be heard over the chatter. "I didn't know it was so popular."

"It's alright," she said, stirring her water with her straw. "It reminds me of college. I helped Fay learn it, we'd go to Olive Garden or Carrabba's every time she passed a test to celebrate."

"You never told me you knew Italian," he said, surprised. "You always struck me as more of a French kinda girl." She shrugged, now tracing letters on the table with her finger.

"I know loads of languages," Diana said with a mischievous grin. "Probably even more than you." He scoffed.

"Yeah right," he said. We'll name them one at a time. First to run out pays for dinner. You start."

"English," she said, rolling her eyes.

"English."

"Italian.

"Russian."

"Spanish."

"Latin."

"Latin."

"Um, Spanish."

"French."

"Knew it. German."

"Finnish."

"Japanese."

"Um...." Diana hesitated. "Elvish?"

Reid chuckled. "Come again?" Diana blushed, and went back to tracing numbers.

"Elvish," she repeated timidly. "Like, Lord of the Rings?" He laughed, and Diana's hand moved faster across the tabletop.

"Why do you do that?" he asked. "With your hand, I mean." She looked down at her lap, embarrassed.

"I'm tracing all the digits of pi that I know," she said quietly. "It's what I do when I'm nervous." He looked at her like she was crazy.

"You're nervous?" She raised her eyebrows.

"I can't think of a time that I've ever been more nervous," she replied. "This is terrifying." He stared at her in wonder. "What, are you going to laugh at me?"

"No, of course not!" he assured her. "I just never thought you'd be nervous around me." She rolled her eyes as the waiter walked up.

The rest of the night went smoothly, much to Diana's relief. Halfway through she had abandoned racing numbers, and was back to gesturing as she spoke like a normal person. When they stood up to leave Spencer walked next to Diana, and even held her hand as they made their way to the car.

Once they were driving back to Diana's apartment, Diana smiled at him.

"Thanks for asking me out," she said, blushing. "I had a lot of fun."

"So did I," he answered with a smile as well. They were mostly silent on the way home, not wanting to ruin the moment. Diana was getting nervous-was she being boring?-and almost starting tracing again before she told herself to relax. This was Spencer, not some weird guy. Whether that was a date or not, he was still easily her best friend.

They arrived at her apartment complex much sooner than she wanted, and he turned off the car when he parked it. "I'll walk you up," he told her as they both got out. Diana nodded, feeling nervous again. She knew what was coming.

They got into the elevator, a thick silence laying between them. The ding of the elevator made Di

jump, and they walked down to her door. When they were in front of it, she looked at him.

"Thanks again," she repeated herself from ten minutes earlier. He half shrugged.

"It was fun," he said simply. He leaned down and she closed her eyes and-

"How'd it g-oh, hi Spencer."

Spencer jerked backwards, face red. Diana turned around, confused as to why he hadn't kissed her, and saw Garcia standing in her apartment.

"Have fun?" she asked, winking at Diana. She stared at Garcia, upset.

"Um, bye Diana," Spencer said quickly, giving her a side hug. He walked quickly towards the elevator, unable to look either girl in the eye. Diana looked from Garcia to Spencer, and ran after him.

"Spence, wait up!" He didn't hear her and got in the elevator, and the doors shut before she got to it. She ran to the steps and raced down them, trying to beat the elevator. She knew it was slow, and she almost tripped over herself getting down. She burst into the lobby and saw Spencer was halfway across. "Spencer!"

He turned around and she half ran up to him before wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him. It was short and sweet, nothing special, but she was grinning like crazy afterwards.

"See you Monday," she breathlessly before running back up the steps.
