The team worked well into the night, trying to find something-anything-that could lead them to Diana's father. At one point Reid got into an argument with Hotch.
"Are you sure she's ready for this?" he asked his boss. The team was leaving to go look at the crime scene-her dad's house.
"She has to be," Hotch said. "She said that she'd stay on the case."
"Isn't that a little harsh?"
"It's not your concern," he replied curtly. Spencer looked over at Diana joking around with Morgan and felt a little bit better.
Once they reached their destination, Diana hopped out of the car. Spencer grabbed her hand as they walked up to the house. They walked in and he saw her smile. With a jolt she realized that she was home. They walked into the kitchen and saw the coffee cup, still laying on the floor. The window glass was littering the floor as well. Everyone quickly got to work.
After two hours, Diana finally had found something.
"Window," she said aloud. Since nobody had spoken for a little over an hour, everyone jumped a bit.
"What about it?" Rossi asked her.
"It was broken from the inside," she explained. "Look here, really closely at the shatter pattern...that's clearly a break from this side of the house."
Hotch came and looked over it. "She's right," he confirmed. "So we need a new explanation on how he came inside."
"Great," Morgan said. "Now we have to figure that out too, before we can track him down."
"Don;t get irritated," JJ reminded him.
"I'm irritated because we need to find this kid's dad!" he half-yelled. Hotch raised his eyebrows, and Morgan shook his head and returned to the work.
"Okay, so maybe it wasn't forced entry?" Emily suggested. "Maybe Smith knew the guy." Diana bit her lip.
"I dunno," she said, hesitating. "It's definitely possible, but..."
"It's looking like the only option," Rossi said. "There's no signed of forced entry anywhere."
Diana thought hard about this. Her father wouldn't have let just anyone in, especially with who was on the run. Suddenly, she remembered something her stepmother had said earlier that day, when they were visiting.
"Here are some pretzels, I know that they're your favorite," Sarah said, ruffling her hair affectionately. "Josh has started liking them as well-they're flying off the shelves at home."
"I don't eat pretzels, Mom," Josh said. "They're disgusting."
