=====================

After a while of standing in each others embrace by the front door you finally found it in yourself to pull back. Mainly because you wanted to see his face again.

That was when you noticed a small cut above his left eyebrow. "You did get hurt" you quietly said as you gently traced your fingers over the skin just below the mark.

"It's nothing" he reassured you. Ignoring his reassurance you grabbed his hand and wordlessly pulled him toward the kitchen. He allowed you to do so and sat at the kitchen table. You used your wand to get rid of the minor injury before cleaning away any remaining blood. Remus watched you intently.

"Can I have the name of who did this?" you asked once you were done.

"It was a tree" he replied calmly.

"Ok. And where exactly was this tree? I won't do anything I just want to see it" you spoke threateningly. Remus gave a small chuckle and his eyes glanced to the clock.

"I thought you'd be at work by now" he stated.

"I should be. But I needed to know you were ok first" you explained as you now also took a seat at the table.

"I was fine" he steadily said once more.

"I didn't know that though. I-  I was getting ready to go out looking" you admitted.

"You would have missed work and you've been so much happier being back"

"Keeping you safe is more important" you replied, almost shyly at this point, as you cast your gaze to the floor. You didn't want him to think you were crazy. But instead of laughing at you, or rolling his eyes, Remus grabbed your hands in his.

"(Y/n) please look at me" he asked softly. You obliged and your eyes drifted up to meet his. "I won't leave you. I promise" he said so surely that you couldn't help but believe it was true. Even if you knew it wasn't something that could be guaranteed, you believed he would find a way to ensure it. For you.

"You know I'll hunt you down if you break that promise" you warned him.

"I don't doubt it. Now go to work. I'll be fine" he told you. It was then you finally realised how late you actually were. It was your second week back after having taken a long period of time off to grieve. You didn't care how late you were in the end, however. You were just happy that Remus had returned and was safe.

You left the kitchen and got ready for work. You then went to check on Remus one last time before you finally left.

Even though you knew he was perfectly fine you spent the whole day thinking about him. You thought he truly would laugh at you if he knew how much he had begun to consume your thoughts.

Was this normal? Of course you had become more attached to him for obvious reasons but you were beginning to wonder if it was also something else... something more.
