=====================

Having been hounded by several students about his exclusive parties, Slughorn finally gave in and decided to throw a Valentine's Day party for all students. First years up to fourth years would have theirs first around lunch and then the rest of the years would have their party in the evening.

The event had stirred a great craze amongst everyone in the castle. Even the ghosts seemed to lie anticipation of the event that was rumoured to rival the infamous Halloween feast of '74.

As someone who had never particularly enjoyed parties, you spent your time watching all the creative ways people took to asking out their dates. You always admired the people who were brave enough to ask out the person they wanted.

Despite now being in your seventh year, you still struggled to tell people what you wanted. It was a topic of great discussion amongst your friends, most of whom were dating someone by now.

You didn't mind not having anyone in your life yet though. You knew that the right person would fit into your life in due time. You even had one person in mind. You just had to wait for it. For him.

You leant against the wall as you lined up behind Lily Evans and James Potter outside your classroom. They soon noticed you and drew you into friendly conversation. Sometime after, the three of you had your attentions caught by a voice calling down the hall.

"Oh come on, Dahlia, don't be like that!"

"I will be how I like Sirius" the girl seethed back, storming past your queue. Sirius' face fell as he approached you all.

"Isn't that the fourth argument you two have had in the last two days?" Lily asked curiously, though it was clear she was attempting to hide some emerging amusement at the situation.

"Actually, it's the sixth" James smugly interjected for his best friend. It was at that time McGonagall arrived and you all began to file into the classroom. You quietly walked in behind the three of them. "And the other day Padfoot here made the mistake of telling her that he'd rather go to quidditch practice than watch her practice her transfiguration"

"Look. Just because you and Evans are shacked up now doesn't make it fair to berate me and my love life" Sirius warned.

"Nah you're right, that wouldn't be fair of me" James appeared to concede and he laid a hand on Sirius' arm. "So it's a good thing it doesn't exist"

"Oi" Sirius went to swipe for James but he managed to evade the attack by ducking behind Lily.

The class all spilled into the room to find their seats. You shook your head at the boys' antics and took your seat at the front and far side of the classroom as always, getting out your books.

James and Lily decided to take the desk behind you whilst Remus and Peter sat nearby.

"Find a seat, Black" McGonagall called out. You could hear Sirius' mumbles grow louder as he skulked through the isles of desks. "Quickly!"

You felt the space beside you become occupied. You looked over to Sirius with an amused glance. "Oh, hello (Y/l/n)" he said in realisation that it was you he'd sat beside.
