Madeline never believed in the impossible. Everything was just a painful reality for her.

A dad who vanished before she could even walk, a troubled mind, and a thrill for science was her reality.

Dear Diary,
My mom got me this journal for my twelfth birthday. She told me to write down my feelings, actions, and other stuff.

Well, I feel distressed.

I believe I have just witnessed the impossible.

Mom and I were at the store when it happened. We had just checked out and headed to the car when we heard alarms.

We turned to see people rush out into the parking lot as cop cars could be heard. My mom told me to stay by the car as she went to see what was happening and to help, she's a nurse.

I stood by the car fiddling with my jacket as cop cars pulled in and my mom was lost in the crowd.

The crowd began to thin out when the screaming started. I stood, frozen by the car as police surrounded the building.

A woman dressed in all black, passed by my car and headed towards the building. She moved effortlessly through the crowd and disappeared inside.

No one even moved as it happened. Hadn't they seen her? Didn't they question the fact that a random woman just walked into a crime scene? What was she doing in there?

Minutes passed like hours before police started shouting again.

The same woman came out but this time she had a guy in a black ski mask by her side. He had his hands raised in surrender and the cops quickly handcuffed him.

Now I really began to feel shaken. No one thanked the woman. No one even regarded her. It was like she wasn't even there.

I knew she was real, she started walking back the way she came. I could hear her heels clicking and see her blink.

I couldn't avert my eyes. Who was she? How come no one could see her? What was going on?

As she passed she caught my eye. Concern flashed in her eyes but was quickly replaced with a smile and she winked as she passed.

I peeked around the car to see her walking out of the parking lot.

"Madeline! Madeline, are you okay?" Came my mother's voice.

"Mom, who was that?" I asked pointing towards the lady.

"Who sweetie? There is no one." She said and grabbed my hand. She led me to the car and we headed home.

"I swear! The lady in heels brought the robber out!" I protested.

"Honey, sometimes our minds play tricks on us when we are in scary situations."

I am beginning to believe her. Now, I do not know what to do.

Dear Diary,
Yesterday was my thirteenth birthday. I still cannot get the images of that robbery out of my head even though it has been a year.

I have a counselor and talk to teachers. But now I'm starting to think differently.

My work started with my counselor. My first session was a talk about cognitive thinking.

First, the hippocampus is the center for all emotions and memories in the brain.

Second, The Temporal Lobe controls memory storage, hearing, and emotions.

Third, the Amygdala keeps the brain alert in case survival skills are needed.

Fourth, The Parietal Lobe receives and processes sensory from the body like location and speed of objects

So, when I was put into a situation like the one at the store my Amygdala kicked in stimulating emotions like stress, fear, and more.

But then my hippocampus and Temporal Lobe kicked in creating a false memory to stimulate a sense of calm.

The impossible does not exist and I will continue my study in science to find out more. I will work very hard for the rest of the school year and so on.

The impossible can't be real can it?

Only one thing to do, discover what's going on.
