Bella's Younger Sister

Chapter 2

As we were driving to the restaurant, my mind drifted too my last day here when I was younger. It was the day after Christmas, and I didn't know that I was leaving for good. I begged Dad to take me over to Billy's, eve though I had just seen Jake the day before. We ran around outside for hours! Having snowball fights, and making snow men families. After about three hours we headed inside and had a cup of hot chocolate. Mom showed up telling me that we were leaving, I didn't know that she filed for divorce. That's when we, mom, Bella, and I moved to Jacksonville Florida. I cried for Jake, Dad and Billy for weeks. Until mom bought me a stuffed toy, and I didn't feel so sad. I was still sad, just not as sad.

"Earth to Maya. Are you still with us Maya?" Dad asks while waving a hand in front of my face.

"Huh? Yeah sorry, I zoned out a little." Truth is I didn't even realize that we pulled into the parking lot We headed into the restaurant and sat down in the booth closest to the door. Bella with her back to the door, and Dad and I across from her. The waitress came up and said, "Usual?" I am guessing that they came here often. I am also guessing that he didn't see me so I leaned forward a little bit. "Oh, I'm sorry. What can I get for you?"

"Can I please get a glass of water and a bacon cheese burger?"

"Of course sweetie. Be back in a few with our drinks."

"Hey Bella!" A guy around her age came up to us. She just kept looking out the window, as if she didn't even know that he was there.

"Hi, I'm Maya, Bella's younger sister." I reach out and shake his hand.

"Really? She never mentioned a younger sister." I just looked at dad. I didn't really know how to answer that.

"Maya, this is Mike Newton. His mother owns the sporting goods store in town."

"Oh, yeah, sorry, where are my manors. Anyway," He says as the waitress comes back with our food and drinks, "I will let you guys be so you can enjoy your dinner. I hope to see you around Bella." Sill nothing. I get that her boyfriend and his family moved away, but she could at least show a little emotion. I can't blame her though. From what I heard from Dad, they were pretty close.

A few times I would look up and see that Bella has barley touched her food. I hope that she hasn't been like this the entire time, barley eating anything. It is not good for her. I decided that I will try to cheer her up. Open up a little bit. "Hey dad"

"Yeah Princess?" I missed that!

"Can I go to Jake's tomorrow?"

"Yeah, maybe Bella can take you over there?" He asks, hopeful. Nothing. Just staring out the window.

"It's fine. My bicycle is in the shed right?"

"Yeah, just stop by the station before you head over I have a package you can give to Billy for me."

"Okay. So, speaking of the station, how is work Serif?" He chuckles before answering.

"It's good. We are getting a lot of reports of bear attacking in the woods now. So, please stay out of the woods. I don't want you to get hurt. That goes for both of you. I don't think that I could handle one or both of my daughters getting hurt."

"Yeah, sure thing dad. I will be extra careful. I didn't think that Bears lived around here though." I said. Trying to keep the conversation going a little longer so there was no awkward silence. I mean, Bella and Dad both are the quiet type, so am I, but I need a little bit of a conversation now and then.

"Apparently they do. You don't live in Phoenix anymore Maya." I guess so. We ate in silence, except for the occasional 'how are you doing?' now and then. At about 5:30 we were all done eating, except for Bella who barley ate anything. I fixed my insulin pump, and we got up to leave. It is starting to get dark out, and I made my way back to the cruiser. This time, I sat up front and Bella sat in the back.

On the way back I said, "Hey dad, I think I am going to turn in early. I am tired from being up early this morning, and then the flight."

"Well, I was hoping to have someone watch the game with me, but you do look like you could use some sleep."

"Thanks dad. I will watch the game with you tomorrow okay? I promise."

"I am holding you to that promise." I mile and as soon a he pulls the car onto the yard, I give him a side hug. I head into the house, go take a shower, change into my pajamas, and take my medicine. I have to take it twice a day, once in the morning when I wake up, and once before I go to bed. I decided to take it now because I probably wont wake up to take it later. As soon as my head hits the pillow, I am out.
