Walking into my uncle's birthday party, I am immediately hit with the sound of laughter and chatter. The smell of delicious food hung in the air. I scan the room, looking for a familiar face, and my eyes land on my cousin Elina.
She's younger than me, but I can count her as my partner in crime. We've grown-up sharing secrets, gossiping and a lot more. I hugged her tightly.
"It's been a while ha?" She sounds excited.
"Yes, I can't wait to eat that cake" I pointed to my uncle's cake.
Elina's eyes travel to my empty right side. "Where's Dane bro?" She asked.
"Ummm... He is somewhere where the bar is" I joked. Raj told me once how he was surprised to see Dane drinking.
Elina dragged me into her room. She showed me her latest painting. She's a talented painter. The murmur of our conversation died as the door swung open. I glanced at the door, a little annoyed at the interruption, and saw my brother Dane's familiar grin.
"Hey" he said, his voice booming slightly in the small room. "What are you two plotting?" He asked.
"Just catching up bro," Elina replied.
My cousin, Elina, looked very excited the moment Dane entered. The last time I remembered, I caught her asking about someone from Dane's teammates. I am 100% sure. She is having a crush on someone from the team.
"Bro, can I see photos on your phone?" Elina asked for Dane's phone. I bet Dane knows everything. I really wanted to ask but I can't because if I ask they will think I am interested which is not true. Half of the Eston FC players are womanizers, that's why I dislike some of them.
She wanted to check Dane's phone to see those group photos of his team. And then I heard her saying...
"Is he single?" Elina whispers in Dane's ear. Her voice was clear enough for me to hear her.
They start scrolling through Dane's phone. I have to act nonchalant. After all, I am not interested in any football Guys especially from my brother's team. This is the reason she keeps it secret from me because she doesn't want me to stop her crushing over womanizer.
But I couldn't shake off the feeling of-what if it's?
The thought came out of nowhere, an unwelcome whisper in my mind, but once it settled, it refused to leave.
I kept my expression neutral, watching as Elina giggled at something on Dane's phone. My fingers curled around the fabric of my dress.
