When they got back from America, Rose and her three soulmates had an appointment at the Soulmate Registration Office. This was the follow-up to Rose's appointment after bonding with Changbin. Last time, the doctor had said he would look into a way of measuring how many soulmates she has.
"I've conversed with other specialists around the world, and the conclusion is that it is not possible to determine how many soulmates someone has."
Rose's eyes widened.
"It's not?"
"No. The reason being that, well, the number can change."
Changbin frowned.
"Change? But aren't we destined to have our soulmates? How can the number change?"
The doctor shook his head.
"Ah, you are thinking of soulmates as they are known in fairytales. In real life, it is not that simple."
Chan looked thoughtful.
"So you could measure how many soulmates someone has, but it might not be accurate."
"In theory. The technology to measure this hasn't been developed because it was deemed unnecessary because of the inaccuracy."
Rose sighed.
"So we'll never know if we are complete or not."
The doctor leaned forward on his desk.
"You are complete, but no, you cannot know if there is another soulmate for you out there or not. What I can tell you is that you all have healthy strong bonds."
Chan strained a smile.
"That's something reassuring at least."
And it was reassuring. After what happened with Rose and Chan when they almost broke their bond, hearing that all their bonds were healthy and strong was a relief.
"I understand this wasn't the news you were hoping for. I suggest you live happily as you are but be open to possible additions in the future."
"Thank you, doctor."
The four were quite as they travelled home. When they were almost there, Chan spoke up.
"What do you want to do, Rose?"
"Wait. Things will happen in their own time. Let's not worry about things we can't control."
Changbin nodded.
"Noona is wise."
Hyunjin snorted and Rose and Chan smiled at Changbin's attempt to lighten the mood.
"Then that's what we will do."
Chan took Rose's hand and lifted it to his lips.
When they got out of the car, Rose let Chan and Changbin go first while she hung back with Hyunjin.
"Are you okay? You haven't said much about the meeting."
Hyunjin looked surpised.
"Me? Are you okay, Noona? I know that wasn't the news you were hoping for."
"Maybe not, but it's not the end of the world. I'm perfectly content with the three soulmates I currently have."
Hyunjin smiled and they walked inside, hand in hand.
That was the last time they mentioned what the soulmate doctor had said. Neither Rose, nor her soulmates brought it up. Weeks passed and things went on as normal. They were all extremely busy. Rose did her best to spend time with each of her soulmates as well as separate herself from when she was their manager and when she wasn't. However, the boys made it hard. They treated her the same no matter where they were. And while it wasn't they end of the world, it made her feel awkward when she was meant to be a member of staff and the Idols she's in charge of don't treat her as such. It was one of the worries she had when she was offer the job, but it wasn't important to leave them short staffed when she knew she could help.
