Miguel Raffetò POV
"Where is she?! What's happening?!"
I was in the middle of pacing back and forth in this brightly lit waiting room when Meg burst in, accompanied by Carter and Etta's mom and dad.
Pollie and Romeo were still here. Zero went to drop off Carson and to see what he could find out.
It's already been over an hour of her being in surgery and the doctors haven't given any updates yet. Not that they would give me them anyway, considering I'm not close family.
But what they did tell me has been haunting me from the moment the words came out the brides mouth.
She was hit by a car on the street where my apartment is. Etta went to fucking see me and I wasn't there.
It's all my fault. It's all my fucking fault.
Hit and run is what they called it. And I'm not stupid enough to not assume that a horrific incident like that isn't related to the whole reason why I broke up with Etta in the first place.
I tried to spare to spare her from any risks and look what good that did me.
"You must be Etta's parents. I'm Pollie - a friend of hers. We haven't heard anything of yet but she's in theatre being operated on."
Grace whimpered, holding her husband Jeremy's arms as she stumbled in shock.
Meg was crying too, Carter looking close to tears as he held his partners waist. "Miguel, what the hell happened?!"
Rome clasped my shoulder, willing me to halt my pacing as I plucked up the courage to look in her loved one's eyes. "The doctors told us she was hit by a car."
"Told you?" Meg said. "You weren't with her?!"
I shook my head, emotion clogging my throat as my pulse spiked with terror.
"Oh honey, come here." Grace suddenly said, bringing me in for a hug as Jeremy rubbed my back in support.
But that touch made me feel ten times worse. The guilt was unbearable. How could I look her parents in the eyes and not tell them that I am why she's lying in that operating table?
I couldn't that how.
Stepping back, I opened my mouth to confess, but Romeo shot me a look and spoke before I could say anything damming.
"She's in the best place, with the best care. And I know it's easy to say, but no news is good news."
They gave him an appreciative smile before leading them to the couches supplied in this whitewashed room.
Pollie was talking with Meg and Carter, to which I overheard her telling her how Etta was planning a lunch for them all to officially meet each other.
I was so scared.
So scared of losing her. So scared of existing in a life without her. Shes my everything and now my everything's life is on the line.
