Etta Valentine's POV

"These are amazing Miguel. Where'd you learn to cook like this?"

"I taught myself, growing up. My ma would always be late home so when I turned 14, I'd buy the ingredients and learn as I went."

We were currently chilling at my kitchen island, eating enchiladas that Miguel made for me. It'd been an hour since we kissed, and the more I learnt about him, the more I found myself wanting to do it again.

"So was your ma not really present?"

Miguel chuckled. "Let's not ruin a good evening Ettie." Oops.

"S-"

"And don't say sorry for caring about my life. I appreciate you, that's why I don't wanna bring the mood down."

"I respect that Migs. But just so you know, I don't think you could ever bring the mood down. It's like, scientifically impossible."

That put a welcome smile back on his face.

"Scientifically impossible hey? Care to elaborate?"

Miguel stood up, collecting my plate before I followed him to the sink. "Yeah. I think you must give off some type of pheromone or whatever that just makes people happy."

He smirked. "People...?"

I playfully shoved his shoulder with mine. "Me. You make me happy whenever you're near me. I think it's impossible to be miserable in your presence."

Miguel stared at me.

I stared at him.

And then we met halfway and our lips fell into each other once more.

The kiss was sweet. It was tentative and new, and whilst I was really trying to take baby steps with him, I found his mouth to be addictive.

But no matter how much we both wanted to, we pulled away before our tongues had chance to explore each other.

Resting his forehead on mine, Miguel stared right into my soul. "We're doing this right. I'm gonna do right by you Etta."

Smiling, I nodded against him.

"And I'm gonna do right by you."

Me: Now on break x

Miguel: 🫡

Seconds later as I sat in the small back room of the cafe, my screen lit up with an incoming FaceTime from Miguel.

"Hey stranger." I teased, chewing on my sandwich as he chowed down a bacon roll.

"You miss me?" He mumbled between bites, making me shake my head whilst smiling.

It was Saturday today. Two days since I'd seen him last and two days since we'd kissed.

"Hmm, I'm afraid I can't disclose that kind of information."

Frowning through the screen, Miguel stuck his tongue out at me - whilst his mouth was full, may I add. "You're kidding yourself if you didn't miss me. And I on the other hand, am not one bit ashamed to admit that these past 48hrs have been depressing without seeing you Ettie."
