swan bonding time
a/n: i love duchess so much
please don't be a ghost reader!

the entire school was in a buzz now that thronecoming was drawing closer. everyone was casting their votes for thronecoming king and queen, designing floats for the parade, getting ready for the bookball championship.

i sat on a bench near my locker with my mirror pad in hand. i figured i'd see who was nominated for thronecoming king and queen before i voted.

let's see.. apple, of course. briar, cupid, raven, my girl, and.. me?

who nominated me?

"believe me, i'm surprised too." duchess says, announcing her presence as she takes the empty spot next to me.

i don't say anything, but duchess doesn't belittle me for it. she sighs, crossing her ankles. "but.. i voted for you."

that's.. a surprise.

"you did?"

my cousin shrugs. "i still love you, y/n. just because i think you're questionable at times, doesn't mean that i think you don't deserve things."

my lips curve in a soft smile. "me too."

duchess smiles, gently flipping a lock of white hair behind her shoulder. i lay on it like how i used to when we were little swans.

after a moment of comfortable silence, i ask, "..want to go to the enchanted forest? i can't remember the last time we danced together."

duchess looks down and smiles a little brighter. "yeah. that sounds nice."

i stand up, moving to my locker to grab my pointe shoes. duchess does the same. hers were a soft shade of pink with light blue, purple, and white gems. the laces wrapped up around her calves, much like mine, and were the same shade of pink as the shoe.

arm in arm, we leave the school and walk toward the ambiance of the enchanted forest.

"now that i think about it," duchess chimes. "i can't remember the last time be danced together either. it seems like it's been forever."

when we get to the lake, it's just like how it was when duchess and i were little. music, dancing, laughter, and no talk of destiny.

i missed this.

so i take this time and cherish it.

we stayed on the lake for what felt like hours. by the time we were done dancing, our legs were definitely going to be sore. duchess and i laid there in the grass, staring up at the shifting skies.

blues, pinks and purples came together like watercolors, and the clouds came together, sparkling like cotton candy. i take a picture of it on my phone, then take one of me and duchess.

"we should do this more often," duchess mutters with a smile, her eyes still on the picture we took together. "we should." i tell her.

"and.. i'm sorry about how i acted on true hearts day. it was uncalled for, and none of you deserved it. i suppose i was just.. jealous."

my eyes soften. "i get it. really." i take her hand and squeeze it gently. "i forgive you, duchess."

duchess smiles again, wiping her eye. "thank you."

"of course,"

to end the night, duchess and i shift into our swan forms, and spend some time gliding around the enchanted lake.
