thronecoming preparations
a/n: had to give some love to the original after updating red so much <3

my favorite part about thronecoming? the days leading up to the dance.

while, yes, the big dance was absolutely fairest, there was nothing as hexciting as building your float for the thronecoming day parade, being fitted for your dress, the bookball championship, and decorating the school for the dance.

duchess and i were working together on a float. after a bit of trial and error, it actually pulled together pretty well.

it resembled the enchanted lake and the willow tree. we used black and white leaves, and painted the roots silver as an extra touch. jeweled garlands with both our signature colors wrapped around our float, and two opalescent swans come together in front.

we spent the next hour or so adding the final touches.

after that's done, raven walks up to our float. "your float looks amazing, you two!" she compliments, looking up at it. duchess smiles, proud of our work. "thank you, raven."

i set my paint brush down, and wipe dust from my sleeves as i step off the float. "thanks, rae."

we'd made plans to pick up some food and chill in her dorm for a while. raven asked me to do her nails for the big event, and i was more than happy to say yes.

i did duchess' the other day, and she loves them.

raven walks ahead, stopping at apple's float while i gather my things.

"do you want to come?" i ask duchess. "i'm sure raven wouldn't mind,"

my cousin shakes her head, smiling a little. "no, but thanks. sparrow and i have plans."

i spare her a knowing smile. her and sparrow were good friends, but i could tell there was something there. "alright," i pull my bag over my shoulder, waving a goodbye. "see you later!"

"come around?" raven's voice raised a bit. she was talking with apple, and i can't help but think she brought something up about our stories.

"i've tried to explain this to you every way i know how! i want to write my own destiny. and to be honest, when it comes to this, i think you're being selfish."

apple blinks, mouth widening in surprise. everyone watching gasps and goes quiet. damn.

i half wish i got to say it.

"you.." apple stammers. "you think i'm being selfish?"

"all you care about is your own happily ever after." raven explains. apple picks up a woven basket full of apples. "you know," she begins. "because you didn't sign the book, all of our stories could go poof. we could all go poof."

"yeah," raven crosses her arms. "but we didn't."

"yet." apple says, sliding off her perfectly built and decorated float, basket still in hand. "raven, i don't want you to sign for me. i want you to sign it so that nothing bad the people i love,"

she takes one of the apples out and hands it to raven. "including you." raven takes it, the look on her face shifting into something like guilt. "if you ask me," apple turns, walking away. "you're the one being selfish."

before i could think better of it, i take raven's hand, and begin leading her away. "you're not. you never have been selfish."

raven starts to counter me, but i cut her off. "nope. not selfish. now, come on," i smile. "our food is going to get cold if we don't pick it up soon. and," i drag out the word. "you still need to pick the charms you want for your nails."

raven laughs. "okay, your majesty."
