I only have one good story to tell, and it all took place one December day in 2011 (I think) I was in my basement, watching The Big Bang Theory in the TV room, and my brother was playing computer games. My mom was taking a nap upstairs, and my dad was still at work.
Our door used to make a beeping noise every time anyone opened or closed it (it doesn't anymore because we broke it), and we heard it beep once. (It beeped once when it was opened and once when it was closed.)
My mom yelled from upstairs, "Elise, did you open the door?"
I ran up the stairs to answer (the back door is on the landing in the middle of the staircase), and closed the door.
I yelled back, "No. It must've been the wind."
I went back downstairs, and glanced into the laundry room as I went. (My laundry room is at the bottom of the stairs.) I saw a young woman who I didn't know crouching on the floor, trying to play with my cat, Wiggi, with a giant fuzzy purple pipe cleaner.
I say trying because Wiggi hates new people so he was kind of looking at her like: "Who the fuck are you and why are you in my house?"
Anyway, I screamed like a little girl (I was 9, what do you expect?): "THERE'S A PERSON IN OUR HOUSE I DON'T KNOW!" Or something like that. I actually have no idea what I said, but my mom told me that it was something like that.
My brother and I ran outside like bats out of hell, and my mom, being stubborn and confrontational, went downstairs to make the woman leave. I don't remember exactly what she said, but I remember "Get out of my house!" And a lot of swearing.
My mom made the lady go into the yard, and my brother and I went back in. We locked the door and my mom called 911. The 911 people were total idiots, and didn't care about some lady going into a random house, probably because she wasn't dangerous.
The lady tried to get into a few more houses after that, and the police finally started taking it seriously.
A few hours later, my dad got home and searched the rest of the basement in case someone had come with her.
Not long after that, the lady came back. This time she came to the front door and said that she needed to meet someone there. A man had followed her and was talking to someone at 911 on his cell phone.
The police finally got there, and we watched the lights of the car from my brother's window until they drove away.
The End.
This is a true story. It was really scary, and to this day, 3 1/2 years later, I still keep the door locked at all times.
Lock your doors,
Elise 😨
