Chapter 13: Sean
I woke up the next day ready for the change. I got up and looked at myself.
Valorie had graciously laid out outfit one. "the attention grabber" as she said.
I slipped on the tight skinny jeans, then the form fitted shirt than came up and exposed my torso. Obviously stuff I'd normally never wear, but these were desperate times. I slipped on the boots that had heels. I would be lucky to even get up the steps with these on. Next was the jewelry. A long necklace that gave my cleavage an attractive appeal, a cuffed bracelet, and hoop earrings. I pulled my hair up in a messy ponytail. I didn't bother putting on makeup. Valorie volunteered to do it.
I walked out with my satchel and duffel bag and loaded into my car. I drove to the school. I looked at the time as I arrived. I was really early. Shit.
I decided to drop by Kay's before I left. I hadn't talked to her since I became 'popular'. Valorie had made sure of that. She said "Sean, think about this. You have potential in being popular. Kay simply does not. I am sorry she has to go." The words stung but later that night I told Kay our friendship had to lay low. She of course was furious, but I knew my best friend would understand.
Driving to Kay's house wasn't the easiest thing. It was cold and dark. I blasted the heater hoping the warmth would eventually filter throughout my car and warm me. Today was the day. I was an hour away from seeing Junior's priceless face.
As I pulled into Kay's drive way, I parked my car and walked into the house.
Kay was at the door waiting, "I didn't order Malibu Barbie. I ordered my best friend."
"Good cause I didn't order the bitchy attitude. I ordered my best friend too." I said furious at how she even said that.
She looked at me. I saw her pondering on whether to shut the door in my face or not. She decided not. I studied her. Without any warning I flung myself on her and hugged Kay.
"Sean get off!" Kay demanded obviously pissed now.
"Not til you admit we are still best friends!" I screamed laughing now.
"Fine we always have been. We are best fucking friends! Get the fuck off!!" She yelled pushing me off. "Sean why are you here?" She mumbled this time I didn't think I was meant to hear her but I did. Clearly.
I threw my arms around her again. "I'm sorry. I have to do this. I have to win Junior over." I studdered and a tear crashed from my eye to Kay's shoulder.
She wrapped her arms around me and patted my hair. That always soothed me and she used to do it when we were little girls. She would soothe me when my parents fought or when I thought I was in love with the little boys of Kindergarten. Now that I actually think about Kay has always been like my older, wiser sister instead of my best friend. We promised we would never get caught up in cheerleading or guys or anything. Yet, here I am I am caught up in both. Junior and cheerleading.
"It's okay. Are you going on the retreat?" Kay said still soothing
"Uh, about that. Yes! I have to Kay. I have to make Junior jealous. I have to show him what he's missing out on!" I slurred my words as they all came out at once.
"Sean, have you ever thought how mad he is going to be when he finds out?" Kay said. I finally took a step back and looked at her. Kay was in pajamas and her hair was a mess.
"I'm sorry Kay. It's just something I have to do." I explained and let my head fall. Of course I never thought that Junior would be jealous or angry. I wanted him jealous, but not mad. How could our friendship just sink like it has in the last few weeks? It's insane.
