Chapter 22: Junior.
Monday had been amazing. Sean and I had made love. God, she had told me afterwards I was her first. I knew she was nervous but it was amazing. Absolutely amazing.
Friday came fast. Coach Brick had made me go through every play to make sure I knew my old position. Carter hadn't taken it well.He had threatened to sue the school but what would he sue them for?
Ha, nothing!
I was thinking to myself when I saw a ball fly my way. Quickly, my hands jumped to my face I caught it and looked at my options. I decided to hit the outside man. I threw the football as hard as I could. Michael my outside man caught the ball then he took off.
I stood back watching. Come on man.
If we got this last point we won and the opposing team, that Carter was on, would have to run. Carter was pursuing Michael.
Shit. All too soon I saw Carter jump on Michael's back right when he was about to score. I took off my helmet, flinging it at the ground.
"Dammit." I mumbled under my breath.
Coach Brick walked over to the dog pile One by one they unstacked. The only guy left was Michael with his arm outstretched. The football right past the touchdown line. I screamed in joy once I saw that Michael made it over. I ran in a dead sprint in his direction and pounced him.
"Chill, Junior!" He chuckled pushing me off and handing coach the ball.
"Okay Brook's team, take a 3 mile hike. I want you around the football field, up the cross country path and around the track twice and you can go home and think about how you can fix it by tonight's game. You boys should have worked harder!" Coach yelled.
We all huddled.
"One. Two. Three. TEAM!" Every player yelled.
"Now get your heads together and meet here at 5 we will leave at 6 and be there by 7." Coach yelled before shooing them off to go run their loser laps.
I glanced at Carter who was glaring at me giving me the 'go to hell' look. I smiled and waved him off.
It made my day to see Carter's team had to win yet they lost, and my team comes out with a victory.
"Davis, come talk with me." Coach called walking off the football field towards his office in the school.
"Yes Sir?" I asked still decked out in all my football padding and everything.
"You are ready for tonight right?" he asked as if he didn't already know the answer.
"Yes sir of course!" I answered taking a seat in one of the two leather chairs.
Looking around his room I immediately recognized my face smirking in our team pictures.
I laughed a bit. Those were the days, Sean and I used to both sneak out and see each other. We would head to the park and just swing. Talking about high school and how we were so ready to get out. We talked about what we wanted to be. Who we wanted to marry. Where we wanted to live and everything in between.
Sean wanted to be a Veterinarian. She wanted 3 kids, 1 boy and then 2 girls. She wanted to marry Channing Tatum. Yet, she said she wouldn't want to live anywhere but here.
"Junior, I am glad that you're my captain. I am glad that you're my best player, too. You've improved a lot since your Freshman year. Yet, here you are a Senior. I never really got attached to any of my players. Son, please come back and visit us though." A tear fell from coach's eye.
I chuckled and got out of my seat walking around towards Coach Brick and he stood up. I gave him a brotherly hug.
"Coach Brick. You are like a father to me. Thank you for always being here, through girl troubles and everything else, and thank you for never giving up on me." A smile glowed from his face and mine.
