CHAPTER 41
Siya's chest heaved with ragged breaths as anger and hurt wrestled within her. Her eyes welled up with tears, but she clenched her jaw, refusing to let them fall.
Reyansh, sensing her turmoil, reached out to grab her hand, but Siya jerked away, her eyes flashing a warning.
Reyansh's face fell, hurt etched on his features. "Why?" Siya asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Reyansh gulped, unsure of how to respond.
Siya's question hung in the air.
Was she asking about the past, about the pain and misunderstandings that had driven them apart?
Or was she asking about the present, about why Reyansh hadn't stopped doing sit-ups even when it was clear he was in pain?
Siya herself didn't know what she was asking, her emotions a jumbled mess of anger, hurt, and confusion.
Reyansh remained silent, his eyes fixed on Siya's face. Earlier, Siya had always understood his silence, knowing that it was his way of processing his emotions.
But now, she wants more. She wanted him to speak up, to explain himself, to apologize, to comfort her.
His silence was no longer reassuring; it was deafening.
Siya's eyes locked onto his, searching for answers, for words, for anything. But Reyansh's lips remained sealed, his silence a heavy burden that weighed on Siya's already shattered heart.
Siya's eyes dropped, and she turned away. If he didn't want to speak up, to clear the air, to explain himself, then she didn't want to hear it either.
The hurt and anger still simmered inside her, but she refused to let them boil over.
Instead, she chose to freeze him out, to give him a taste of his own silence.
The silence that had once been a comfort between them now became suffocating where she couldn't breathe anymore.
Siya turned away from Reyansh, her movements deliberate and calm. She filled a jar with water, then gathered the box of vermillion and turmeric. Without a glance back, she walked out of the house, her bare feet carrying her to the tulsi tree that stood serenely in the front yard.
She poured the water over the plant's roots, whispering a gentle prayer as the liquid soaked into the earth.
The group exhaled collectively, unsure of how to intervene in the tense situation. Sania gestured for them to follow her, and they trailed behind her to the backyard.
