I wake up, my head pounding and my forearm stinging like crazy.
After burning my arm last night, I actually managed to make a meal my father wasn't too disappointed in, and he ate at the table with me in my room. This is rare, but the rest of the evening was actually peaceful.
I walked into my bathroom and pulled the Ibuprofen out of the cabinet, slipping it in my mouth and throwing my head back, swallowing the pill dry.
Almost face-planting into the bathroom tiles, I sprinted back into my bedroom after realizing its 7:30am. My first class starts at 7:50am, so I am in quite a predicament.
As fast as possible, I threw on my shirt and sweatpants, along with my jumper, slipped into my black vans, tied my hair into a ponytail, grabbed my backpack and ran out the door. Good thing I didn't wear makeup, else it would have taken another hour and I would have been late that day.
I checked my phone and realized that I had made it out alive by 7:37. Surprising, as normally I take forever. I jumped into my car, shoving the key in the engine and speeding off.
I somehow managed to get to my school at 7:45. Miracles, man.
In a rush to get to class, I jumped out of my car with my bag and sped to my locker. Grabbing my Chemistry textbook, I hurriedly ran by my locker as fast as humanely possible and got to my class right when Mr. Velazquez was taking attendance.
"Elliot Randal?"
"Present."
"Melanie Rolinda?"
Panting, I struggled to answer.
"H-he-here." I stuttered between breaths.
"Okay.. Take a seat Melanie."
He proceeded through the class list as I sat down in my desk, relieved to be at rest.
The rest of the day was like any other, except for the fact that my art class is going to NYC on Monday. Great, big city with annoying classmates. How much worse can this get?
When I got home, my mom, for some unknown reason, was home already.
"Mom? What are you doing home?"
"Melanie!!" She yelled, pulling me into a tight hug. "You won't BELIEVE what happened! I got a promotion, and they're relocating me! We are gonna be moving to New York soon!"
"What?" I said in disbelief. She can't be serious. Moving?!
"We're MOVING!!!!"
I would have told her this was a bad idea, but she seemed happy. I wasn't going to kill her vibe just because I was salty.
"All our expenses to leave are paid too! Plane tickets, moving vans, everything but the house, which we get to choose ourself! But, my promotion earned me $750,000 that we can use to buy a house & get started in NY."
"Mom, this is.." I hesitated before finishing, "great." and smiling. "I should start packing, but mom, can you sign a permission slip for me? My art class is taking a 3-day trip to NYC to see a new art exhibit and maybe even meet the artist."
"Oh, of course sweetie! While you're there, why don't you look for apartments?" She winked as she handed the now signed permission slip to me. I ran up stairs and immediately got on my computer. What I saw when I logged into my blog was the craziest thing I've seen. EVER.
