I woke up and turned to look at my phone.
I pressed the lock button and was blinded by the light of a thousand suns. "Woah..." I groan, turning down the brightness. I see that I have notifications on Tumblr; mainly follows and comments.
"Ugh. Monday." I get up and jump in the shower and bathe before throwing on an oversized-jumper and some leggings. I slipped on my black vans and grabbed my backpack, running to the door after hugging my mom. Today is the day we go to NYC, and I was already dreading it.
People with social anxiety are not cut out for New York. Why New York? Why not a small town somewhere, like a little farm in Kansas? Please? I mean, we could just play with pigs all day and maybe draw them.
Since we were going on a trip, I went to art first. Mrs. Bosch was taking attendance, so I sat down in my seat and waited for my name. When it came, I announced that I was present and she continued down the list. Afterwards, we boarded the bus and I ended up sitting next to Alyssa, one of the few girls in my school who are actually nice to me. We talked the whole way to NYC, becoming really good friends, and I actually enjoyed it.

When we finally made it to New York after around 4 hours and my heart immediately started pounding in my chest. I think Alyssa noticed because she turned and said "It's ok, you're gonna be fine. You'll love NYC!" She smiled. "Maybe we can go shopping together? Like, Forever 21 maybe?"
"Sure!" I said, my heart rate going down slightly as I did so. Thank goodness she's trying to help, at least.
"And we are here!" The driver announced as we pulled into the parking lot of a hotel. It seemed pretty nice, like a hotel a celebrity would stay at on vacation in NY. But when we walked inside, it was so much more than I expected. The ceiling of the lobby alone was up about 30 feet from my head, and it was covered in extremely detailed wallpaper that was gorgeous. I stood in awe, just following the pattern with my eyes before they came upon a chandelier. The chandelier was beautiful and so bright, and it looked as if it was made of real diamond. The light bulbs were so big that even from this far I could see that they were shaped as a tiny Christmas light bulb would be, and it made the whole light fixture look 1000 times more elegant. ((A/N) yes ik it doesn't look exactly like that, just go with it ) I could feel my jaw drop to my feet and my eyes grew wider than they had ever been. I felt my heart flutter with excitement until I was ripped away from my thoughts.
"Welcome to the Waldorf Astoria." Mrs. Bosch said. "Gorgeous, isn't it?" She smiled, seeing my astonished features. She gave each of us a piece of paper with a key attached and a note that has a number.
"These are your room keys and numbers. DO. NOT. LOSE. THEM. You do not get another copy of either. Now, go find your room and get unpacked. Meet us back in the lobby in an hour for further instructions."
My card read "1459", which meant I was on the fourteenth floor, fifty-ninth room.
Please, God, don't let the elevator be out of order.
I mentally celebrated when I saw they were in perfect condition. The doors were golden and the keys were black, rimmed with gold with golden numbers. I selected 14 and felt the elevator start moving up. As the elevator numbers counted, I did as well.
3, 4, 5, 6, 7, all the way to 14. I felt the elevator jolt to a stop, telling me I had arrived. I exited quickly and turned to my left, following the signs to my room.
"1459.." I mumbled, reading all the signs I passed. "Aha, here it is. I opened the door and was greeted by Alyssa. "We're sharing a room too?! YES!" She exclaimed. She threw her hand up in the air for a high five. I collided my hand with hers, hearing a slight clap as they did so.
"Which bed do you want?" She asked, walking across the room.
"Um, I don't really mind. You can choose yours first."
"Ok, great! I guess I'll choose this one.." She said, walking towards the bed farthest from the window.
"Ok." I mumbled, moving to the bed opposite hers.
"I'm so excited to be here!"

I walked out the door to go downstairs to the lobby for our meet up. Alyssa had already gone down, but I stayed up to make me some coffee. I opened the door, staring at my phone. My mom had texted, asking what I thought of NYC. I started to type a reply, then before I knew it I was almost on the ground. I looked up and saw that I had run into a boy in dark sunglasses and a black hoodie over his head.
I spilled my coffee on him.
"Oh my god I'm so so sorry, this is all my fault. I wasn't watching where I was going and I ju-"
"It's ok," he said, cutting me off, "don't worry about it." He paused, flashed a smile, and hurried down the hall.
"That was.. Odd." I whispered to myself, continuing on to the elevator.
