After school, Thomas explained the situation to Mercury and Radar.

Radar looked exasperated. "I can understand why Cricket's doing it. But Thomas, really?" Thomas shrugged, and Mercury laughed.

"At least you and Cricket will be able to study at home. The weird thing is you have to research the town. Mr. Fredericks never done that before."

I shrugged. Mr. Fredericks is weird in general. I looked at Thomas, and jerked me head. Thomas nodded. "We gotta go study. You know, Cricket always has to- ow!" I cuffed him on the ear.

"That hurt! Fine. See Ya Radar. Bye Mercury." I waved, and they both told us goodbye.

The town library was very old. There were towers and towers of bookshelves, and limitless information.

You wanted to find a lost civilization, this is the place. Wanted to study for extra credit? this is the place. Wanted to summon the best knowledge known to mankind? You'll have to go to the library across town. But here is the best substitute.

We entered the building, and greeted the librarian. Then, I sat down with Thomas at a table.

I took out a piece of paper. I pointed towards the H section, and then I pointed at Thomas. "H section. Got it." I pointed to myself, and then I pointed at the W, for Wisconsin.

Thomas nodded, and then saluted. "Off to study, then." I handed him a notebook, and I did my most serious face. "I won't fall asleep this time." He sighed, and strutted off to the History section.

I nodded, satisfied, and went off towards the W section. I went through all the books, trying to find something about Wisconsin.

And then I saw a book that would be perfect.

The cover showed the entrance to our town. Mordale. Our town had a weird name, but whatever. It's like that show, called Gravity Falls.

The book was titled The Strangest Town In Wisconsin. I brought the book over to the computer to start typing. I began to read:

Mordale, Wisconsin, is commonly known as the strangest town in the state. Though it is not scientifically proven, there is much speculation about a 'curse.' It was said that a wizard cursed the town after the theft of his spell book, and when his daughter was turned  into the authorities.

Ever since, the town rains more than it normally should in Wisconsin. Though it is not proven, many have still believed it.

The 'wizard's' name was Farlo Bend, and it was decided by the town leaders he was insane, and not fit to raise a daughter. His daughter, Heather Bend, was given to the orphanage, and Bend's book, from which he was obsessed, was put under lock and key. Bend was arrested.

Mordale's leaders were buried behind the Mordale Public Library, and along with Heather Bend. Farlo Bend was never found, assuming he escaped from his cell.

My eyes were glued to the page, and I blinked. So, the leaders were buried right behind this library. Maybe I could take a picture tomorrow and show Mr. Fredericks, for extra extra credit.

I studied and typed, studied and typed. I don't know how long I was there, but soon only the project mattered to me. Everything else seemed to disappear from my vision. Work work work work work work.

"Cricket? Cricket! Cricket wake up!" I yelped, and jumped. I had fallen asleep on top of the computer, and Thomas was shaking me.

Thomas rolled his eyes. "You tell me not to fall asleep, you hypocrite." I smiled nervously, and showed him the work I had done.

Thomas looked it over, and looks back at me. "Fine. At least you worked." I tilted my head, and gestured to him.

He rubbed the back of his neck. "Sorry Cricket...but I fell asleep too." I facepalmed, and through my hands up in the air in exasperation.

"Well! At least I found this!" Thomas pulled something out from behind his back. I looked at him curiously.

He slammed the book down on the table. I glanced at him, and then pulled up the book to my vision.

It didn't have any label. Only the bottom was written. In very tiny script, it said Property Of Bend.

I gasped, and then pointed at the book. Thomas shrugged. "I found it over in the back. It was on a table. The librarian said she found it halfway in the ground outside in the backyard. Then she rambled on and on about how people are never responsible for their books-"

I ignored him. It couldn't possibly be real, could it? The cover nearly falling off answered my question.

Oh no.
