Mom and Dad had called the police, and we all went to the only place in town that wasn't disheveled.
The library. Of course.
The whole ride there, we stayed on the line with Mercury. She said she was already at the library. Thomas didn't say anything, but I think he was just as afraid for Radar as was I.
By the time we were at the library, it was pretty much packed. People were already acting as if it were an apocalypse, and had brought food and sleeping bags. I don't know why, but Thomas didn't tell our parents that it was probably the book's fault. I had it in my backpack along with all my dance things. What? I have priorities.
I think everybody was so afraid, they didn't even tease me for my monkey nightgown. Well, or it was the fact that Thomas was wearing squirrel pajamas that said 'I'm a nut!'
Mom and Dad talked with the other adults, and told me and Thomas to find Mercury.
We searched, and then we found her.
She was with her dad, and she was wearing a coat over her ghostly white nightgown. Mercury ran to us, and hugged me and Thomas. "Glad you guys are safe. What happened?" I gave a pointed look at Thomas, and he rubbed the back of his neck.
"Heh heh, well you see-" "Guys!"
Radar ran to us, looking worried. I felt a wave of relief come over me as I saw him alive and well, wearing space pajamas.
He hugged us all, and for a moment, I forgot all about the book and the chaos happening, because I was so happy to see my friend alive.
"Radar!" Mercury exclaimed, scolding him. "Why didn't you pick up?" Radar pushed his glasses up his nose. "Our power went out, and I only got a landline. Mom says I can't get an actual phone until I'm fourteen."
We hugged him anyway, and then I remembered the book. I looked at Thomas, and I pursed my lips. Thomas sighed, and then spoke up.
"Guys...I have to tell you something."
---------------------------------------------
Radar was yelling and Mercury was rocking back and forth scared.
Well, it went better than expected.
After Thomas told them everything, they were pretty mad. I finally had calmed them down with my persuasive wording(note sarcasm).
Radar sighed, and then gave Thomas a death look. "Why would you do that? It's just a book." I raised an eyebrow.
"Sort of, but you get my point."
We all sat there, and I felt bad for Thomas. He did upturn the town but...you know what, I'm still mad at him.
"So," Mercury bit her lip. "What now?"
We were all silent. I really didn't know what to do. After all, was there really something to stop this? Would we have to leave Mordale? I considered I might not see Mercury or Radar again after all this.
We decided we should get some sleep. It was still 2:39 in the morning. Mercury was the first to fall asleep. And then Thomas. Finally Radar. I still stayed awake, and I picked up the book. I don't know why I was the only one who could touch it. It felt like a weapon I shouldn't be handling.
I flipped to the first page. I saw spells and potions, and soon my eyes were glued to the pages. There were so many different things in this spellbook. I saw a chapter, called Curses and Their Reverses.
Maybe this could turn our messed up town back to normal.
I looked for the best description of the curse our town is in, and finally, I found something that might be it.
Curse Of Rightful Revenge
Recommended for your nemesis/multiple nemesis. Purpose is to cause pure chaos. Can be cursed for a landscape/person/council. Side affects include nausea, nosebleed, raising the dead, and minty fresh breath.
Raising the dead didn't sound too amazing. The counter-curse was on the next page.
Counter-curse Of Unjust Revenge
Recommended if you were cursed by your nemesis/multiple nemesis. Go to area where the curse was cast, and say incantation:
Go away to save your might
Rid the curse of your blight

And one to stop and avengeSide affects include side aches, uncontrollable opera singing, and death.
Well then. At least the book was direct.
