Once, I got home, I went straight for my room, trying not to wake my mother and father. Once, I entered my room, I cuddled up in my bed, finally feeling safe. As, I was drifting off to sleep, I heard my door creak open. Then, I felt a body sit on the edge of my bed. I felt a soft loaded hand on my leg above the covers, "Shontelle?" It was my mother. She never came in my room. What happened? "Where have you been?" She wasn't mad or angry, just concerned. She had on that loving mother voice.

I sat up and faced her, "Mom, why am I always the one that's getting abused? You, dad, and Dedrick. Like, what have I done to deserve that? Huh?" I asked.

"Nothing and we're sorry. Now, back to where you mentioned Dedrick. I thought ya'll were doing good. He treats you like his little princess, right?"

"Well, I thought the same too. But mom, he only treats me like a princess when there's an audience, but when we're behind closed doors, he beats me half to death. You have no idea, mom."

"Why didn't you tell me sooner?"

"One, because he hasn't given me the right to leave his presence lately. Two, I didn't want you to worry. Now, I'm really tired and exhausted, so I'm going to bed. Goodnight," I laid my head back down on the pillow, while my mom got up and left my room, going back to her own.
