The rest of the day goes by pretty quickly. Up until church. Austin is wearing the same plaid shirt he wore to school. So I wear the same black shirt I wore.
We pull into the small church. We all get out of the car. I look around and see Allyson. She is standing in a group of other highschoolers. Look and see Daniel and two other guys I dont recognize and then I see him. Locker boy. I walk with Austin to them. Allyson turns to me.
"Hey your here. Great. Well this is Daniel as you know."
She points at Daniel then points to one of the unknown boys. The one with brown short hair and a cap on. The other has buzzed hair and a cap on. The brown short hair is shorter than the buzzed hair.
"And this is Eden and John. They both are knuckle heads. And country to the bone. Well maybe not Eden Hes a city slicker."
We all laugh.
Then she points to locker boy. His eyes havent left me since I got out of the car.
"And lastly but not least this here is Lucas. We have a few classes together with him."
Lucas waves. He has blonde hair. It its not too long. Not even past his ears. His green eyes dont help me with ignoring how good he looks. Wow. His face is perfect. Not cover boy like Austin but he is amazing. Only he keeps looking at me. The sun shines off his eyes perfectly.
Then two more girls walk up and give hugs to Daniel Lucas Austin and Allyson.
"This is Lola and Molly. Beware they are crazy."
Austin laughs at his own joke. So does Allyson and Daniel. And both the girls. Lola has blonde curly hair. It reaches her middle back. And Molly has short brown wavy hair. Its only to her shoulders. They dont loom related at all. Probably just best friends. Molly laughs and Lola shouts to Austin.
"Oh hush you know you love us. We bring fun to this boring group."
She flashes a smile.
Austin runs in and grabs a few things. He comes out with a basketball, volleyball, soccer ball, and football.
He signals for Lucas to run and Lucas does. Austin throws the ball a great spiral and Lucas catches it. Then he kicks the soccer ball to Lola and she takes off with it between her feet.
Allyson looks over at me.
"Come on we have a while before youth starts. Lets play. You play any of these sports?"
"Yea I uh do basketball and football and soccer."
"Ok well I dont do basketball. Football is ok. But soccer seems fun. We play it a lot. They do matches and even place obstacles for us to get the ball across."
I smile as Allyson grabs my arm and drags me in between the ball and Austin. We all run for it. And I make it there in no time. I Mick the ball and travel with it. Soon we all are worn out. And tired.
"How bout some basketball guys?"
Austin volunteers.
Everyone groaned. Except me. "Sure."
We both get up and I grab the ball. I dribble onto the pavement where the hoop stands. I come in for a layup. And of course I make it. But then Austin jumps in and takes the ball. He dribbles back with it and I come up on him and guard him. Making it impossible to score. Because its just me he throws the ball over my head and runs around me. I chase after him and set a pick. He begins to charge at me so at last minute I duck down and still the ball. I run around the court and shoot. Soon Daniel joins to help Austin. Then everyone is playing. We forgot teams and done a free for all. But we didn't keep score we just played.
After about 15 minutes we all go in get a drink and sit. The youth pastor gives a quick study about how Peter and John healed a man in Jesus's name and how we have that power today if we believe in him all things can be done through Christ. But I am only half listening.
After about 30 minutes we all start to leave. We play another quick game of basketball. Then the Dodgers and I head out. I run up to Allyson to tell her a quick see ya and she gives me a hug. I am taken aback. I stand there for a swcond.
You idiot hug her back. Its just a see you later hug.
I hug her back awkwardly and we exchange short see ya at school tomorrows.
I run up to Austin and we both jump into the car. Soon we are both at the Dodgers house.
We all head to our designated rooms.
I shut my door. Change into some more comfortable clothes and smile as I let myself doze away.
The last thing I think of is Lucas.
