The world outside blurred past the tinted windows of the sleek black SUV, but inside, the air was thick with tension.
Not the uneasy kind-no, this was something else entirely. Something deeper, something heavier. Something that had been building since that night.
Three weeks. That was how long it had been since Taylor had claimed me. Since she had made it clear that I was hers, not just as her bodyguard but as something more.
What that "more" truly meant, I still wasn't sure, but I knew one thing-there was no escaping her hold on me.
Taylor sat beside me, legs crossed, one hand idly tracing patterns on my thigh. It was a casual touch, one that could be mistaken for absentmindedness, but I knew better. Every touch of hers was intentional, a constant reminder that she owned me.
"You're quiet," she mused, her voice smooth yet laced with amusement. "Thinking about something?"
I swallowed, turning my head slightly to meet her gaze. "Just... processing."
She smirked, her fingers pressing slightly into my thigh. "Still?" A small chuckle escaped her lips. "I thought you'd be used to this by now."
Used to it.
To waking up tangled in her sheets, her arms wrapped around me like she was afraid I'd disappear.
To her possessive touches, her lips on my skin whenever she pleased.
To the way she watched me-always-like she was making sure I didn't forget who I belonged to.
I shifted in my seat, clearing my throat. "It's a lot to get used to."
Taylor tilted her head, studying me with that unreadable gaze of hers. Then, without warning, she leaned in, her lips brushing against my ear. "You love it," she whispered, her breath warm against my skin. "Don't pretend otherwise."
I shivered, hating how easily my body reacted to her.
Before I could reply, the SUV slowed, pulling up to the massive estate that had become my new home. The driver said nothing as he exited to open our door, but I caught the way he averted his gaze. Everyone knew.
They had seen the way Taylor looked at me, the way she kept me close, the way she claimed me with every touch.
She stepped out first, then turned, holding out a hand.
"Come." A simple command, but one I knew better than to disobey.
I placed my hand in hers, and she pulled me to my feet, her grip firm, possessive. The moment my boots hit the pavement, her other hand slid around my waist, pulling me in.
Three weeks, and I was already conditioned to expect it.
She smirked at my silence, pressing a soft kiss to my temple before murmuring, "Good girl."
And just like that, any fight I had left in me melted away.
-----
The air smelled of salt and summer, the breeze tousling my hair. It should have felt peaceful. It should have felt like a moment of quiet.
But nothing was ever quiet when Taylor was around.
"Mmm, there's my good girl."
Her voice was smooth, dripping with amusement, and I didn't have to turn to know she was watching me. Always watching.
I heard the soft clink of ice against glass before I felt her. A warm presence behind me, the heat of her bare skin brushing mine.
Her arms wound around my waist with ease, fingers pressing into my stomach, pulling me back against her. She smelled like sun and expensive rum, like control wrapped in silk.
