My headaches had worsened to a point where I just wanted to smash my head into something. It felt as if a million fire ants were stinging my skull. Death was slowly approaching me each day. It kept getting closer and closer....and welcomed it with open arms.

Since my birthday was exactly a week away, I told the officers that I was of legal age.

Falling back asleep was difficult but what was even more challenging was waking myself up on time for school. I ended up oversleeping without my mother there to wake me up. There was no sweet aroma in the air that sped my routine up. The air felt dry and icy.

"Oh no!" I screamed as I looked at my alarm. I was more than an hour late for school.

"Don't even bother coming through that door," my second period teacher shook her head at me. "March your way over to ISS." (In School Suspension.)

I let air out loudly through my nostrils before making my way down to ISS.

The lady who ran ISS looked at me shockingly. She was very beautiful unlike some of the other staff members. She had a unique set of hazel eyes that attracted light into them. Her hair was a light blond with streaks of brown running down the strands. Her figure was a little on the chubby side but she pulled it off well and made it work with her bubbly personality. She and I became friends after my family helped find a place for her to live upon her moving to New Jersey.

"Maya!" She put her hands to her mouth when I entered the room. "Oh dear child! Please tell me you're here to give me something."

       I down-cast, "sadly, no I'm not."

She pointed to the chairs in the room. "Go find yourself a seat, hon-" her attitude changed when the principal walked by. "Go sit down holligan!"

I smiled before I made my way over to the chairs. Reece snickered when I sat down beside him.

"What?" I whispered in an annoyed tone.

"There are other people in this room but you decide to sit next to me. Sweetie, it's blatantly obvious that you have a thing for me." Reece carved into the sides of a pink eraser.

"You're the only person I know in this room," I gave him my best straight face. I couldn't believe that he thought that I still liked him. Puh-lease! He left me when he went to France. He didn't say a single word to me! No goodbyes, no I miss you...absolutely nothing.

His blue eyes made my body temperature decrease. "How come you're in here?" He looked up at me. "Pretty faces like yours don't belong in this room."

I sighed before speaking, "I was tardy by an hour and a half late."

His expression shrunk. "Boring. I was expecting something wilder."

"Like what?"

"You don't have to act all innocent around me, sweetheart."

I scoffed, "Who do you think you're talking to?"

A simple smile sent fireworks exploding around me. "Maya, can we talk?"

      That's when the bell rung.

Sorry if that frustrated you. It frustrated me too.

I want to make this book more dark because it's getting too predictable right now. Prepared to get your feelings hurt in the next upcoming chapters. Keep tissues on hand with you.

I'm just going to tell you that since I really love Santiago's character, I'll make a chapter that's cliché and very romantic!! It will probably be one of the most proverbial things you'll ever read but I don't care because he's my favorite creation.
