Rey's POV

"Hello everyone, this is your captain speaking. We will be landing shortly. Please prepare for landing ."

I looked out the window as the city came into view, stretched wide beneath a wash of golden light. The sun was just beginning to rise, painting the rooftops in amber. It had been months since I'd seen this place from the sky.

Beside me, Flor—no, Ume—was still asleep, her head resting lightly on my shoulder. She'd been out for most of the flight, breathing soft and even. I didn't have the heart to wake her. Not yet.

But we were almost there.

I shifted slightly and leaned in. "Ume" I murmured. "Wake up. We're here."

She stirred, groggy, stretching her arms with a quiet yawn. "Already?" she mumbled, rubbing her eyes.

I smirked. "Yeah. Get ready to grab your bags."

Once the plane landed, I pulled out my phone and checked the time.

Perfect.

"Right on time."

Getting through the airport didn't take long.

As we stepped into the terminal, I immediately spotted her.

Maribel.

She stood near the exit, waving excitedly, holding up a sign that read Welcome Home in Spanish.

Once she put the sign down

I saw Her belly
It was rounder than the last time I'd seen her, and the glow on her face was unmistakable.

"Rey..." Ume's voice was quiet, hesitant beside me. "Who is that?"

I turned to her with a small smirk. "Come on. I'll introduce you."

We walked toward Maribel, and the second we got close, she opened her arms wide.

"Bienvenido a casa, mi amor," (welcome home, my love) she said warmly, wrapping me in a hug. Her voice was thick with love.

I kissed her forehead, resting one hand gently against her belly.

A faint movement pressed back into my palm.

I grinned. "He's kicking."

Maribel chuckled. "He's missed you too."

Behind me, Ume cleared her throat—loud and pointed.

I turned to see her standing stiffly with her arms crossed, giving me the look.

I chuckled. "Right. Maribel, this is my sister, Flor- mmh Ume."

Maribel's face lit up. "Oh dios mío! You look just like him!"

Before Ume could even react, Maribel pulled her into a warm embrace, pressing a kiss to her cheek.

Ume laughed, slightly caught off guard. "Uh... thank you?"

Maribel stepped back, studying her. "Seriously, Rey, now I know what you'd look like if you were a girl."

I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, yeah, okay, let's go."

Grinning, Maribel hooked her arm around Ume's and guided her toward the exit.

For the first time in a long time, I felt at peace.

Ume's POV

I sat quietly in the backseat as we drove through familiar streets, my hands folded in my lap.

Everything looked... different.

Not completely unfamiliar, but enough to make my chest feel tight.

The streets. The buildings. The little corner stores. Some things had changed, but others remained exactly as I remembered.

And then, finally—

The house.

The car pulled up to the front, and I stared out the window.

The entrance was the same. But everything else...

"You renovated it?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

"Yeah," Rey answered simply.

We stepped out of the car, and as soon as we entered, the changes became even more apparent.

The layout was familiar, but the decor was different—new furniture, new colors, new memories that weren't mine.

"I hope you don't mind the mess," Maribel said sheepishly as she set her purse down. "I've been so busy with preparing for the baby shower and everything else."

I shook my head quickly. "No, no, it's fine! Really." I gave her a small smile. "If anything, please let me help."

Her expression softened. "Thank you, Ume."

A brief silence settled between us.

Then Rey's phone rang.

He checked the screen, his brows furrowing slightly before he let out a quiet sigh.

"I have to go," he said, tucking his phone into his pocket. He turned to Maribel first. "I'll be back soon."

She gave him a knowing look. "Okay. Be safe." Then, in a slightly firmer voice, "And I want you home tonight, Sato."

I raised an eyebrow at the way she said his name, and Rey just sighed before leaning in to kiss her.

Then, without another word, he grabbed his keys and left.

Maribel turned back to me with a small smile. "Anyway, let me show you your room."

I nodded and followed her up the staircase—something that hadn't existed before.

The second floor was new, expanded.

She opened a door and gestured inside. "Here's your room."

I stepped inside slowly, taking everything in.

It wasn't my old room....

But for now...

It was home?
