Sorry Giant

Ume Pov

The time was 4:00 pm and I was clocking out for the day at the cafe. "Ume, are you going to do your shift at the hospital today?" My Grandmother asks me as I place my work things away and help her lock up for the day. "Yes ma'am, I'll try to be home before it gets dark outside." I say to her in a happy yet kind of tired tone. "Very well but you need to stop working so much and so hard. Why don't you just settle down instead?" she says to me, I laugh and giggle at her statement. "I'm young and you know I'm not ready for that kind of thing." I say to her and she grumbles at me and shakes her head.  I work a lot and do different jobs because I'm saving up money to get a plane ticket and to help my Grandmother in anyway that I can.

After closing up the shop, my Grandmother and I both part ways and walk to our next destinations. As I'm walking in the direction of the hospital I see the giant from earlier come out of a Ramen shop with his friend following behind him. I really tried to ignore him but something in my gut told me to go and apologies, so I followed my gut feeling. I jogged my way over to the huge well-dressed man and got his attention. "Um... Excuse me, sorry to bother you but i just wanted to say sorry for bumping into you earlier today.." I said to him in a sort of shy yet confident tone. He looks at me and stays quiet for a minute then speaks"mmmh I forgot about it but now I remember. It's fine but watch where you are going next time. I assume you are not hurt correct?" he says to me in a deep voice as he towers over me. I start to shake a bit as my PTSD slowly starts kicking in, however I remind myself I'm okay. I make eye contact with him and this time I actually take a good look at his face.... he has huge scars covering his face, and his glasses hug his face tightly. "Oh of course I'm fine it was a small bump that's all if anything I hope I did not hurt you," I say to him with a small gentle smile. He shakes his head and looks around for a moment before turning his attention toward me again. "Um as part of my apology please allow me to give you a pastry from a nice cafe not far from here-" I'm cut off when another male greets himself to the giant man. "Well well never thought you were a ladies man Hanayama.'' he says in a laid back tone. "Baki that's not nice, you cut her off." I hear a familiar voice so I turn around and see the direction that the voices are coming from. "Kozue?" I say and see my best friend holding hands with her boyfriend. "Ume ?! I didn't know it was you! what are you doing talking to Hanayama? " she says to me in a happy tone but then a kinda nervous tone. I look at her and give her a nice sweet smile. "I was apologizing for bumping into him earlier today after helping you. Baki looks at the big giant and laughs a little bit  "I don't think you should be apologizing, if anything he should be the one apologizing for taking up so much space," he says to both me and the giant.
The giant man stays quiet and looks emotionless towards Baki before turning his attention back at me and placing his hands in his pants pockets. "No, need. Since we both apologize, I guess we are even." He says in a deep voice. I just smiled at him and nodded my head in an "okay" gesture.
"Oh by the way I'm Baki Hanma , nice to meet you." Baki introduces himself to me and I do the same "I'm Ume Sato, it's nice to meet you too. I hear a lot about you actually." I say to him and quickly see Kozue blush and slightly shake her head. Baki laughs and looks at his girlfriend. "Really? Good things I hope." He says before the giant man introduces himself as well "I'm Kaoru Hanayama."
"We'll it's very nice to meet you both, but I actually have to get going. I'm going to be late for my shift. Oh and again I'm sorry for bumping into you Hranayama." I say and notice the giant man's eyes widened a bit as I said his name. I take off and continue my way to the hospital.

Once I arrive at the hospital I quickly get my nurse uniform on and check the board to see what doctor I'll be working under this week. "Kureha Shinogi" I say softly as I read the name off the white board in the employee lounge. I make my way to where his patients are in the hospital, once I saw him I was so amazed by how tall and big he looked and to my surprise he was already doing his rounds. "Dr. Shinogi !" I say out loud as he quickly starts making his way to another patient room. He stops and looks down at me "are you lost?" I look at him confused for a moment and realize I probably look like a lost tourist. "N-no my name is Ume Sato, I'm one of the nurses that will be working with you today." I say to him in my best Japanese that I can speak. He simply nods his head and continues his rounds around the hospital.
Towards the end of my shift after helping so many people and kept on my toes, I clock out and run into Dr. Shinogi. "Ume? Correct?" He says to me and I nod. "I just wanted to say thank you for doing such a good job with my patient's today, most of the nurses that work with me can't keep up, like you did today. I'll place you under my services from now on okay."
He says to me as he makes his way to his office. He didn't really give me time to answer him so I just stood there smiling at him like an idiot. I grabbed my things and started to walk home. It was already dark outside and I tried my best to stay where the streets were busy with people.... I'm not scared of the dark or anything ... I just get reminded of an ... event.
