Sayaka POV
It happened in a second.
One blink—and everything was gone.
Hanayama told my father he didn't want me. That he was going to take our territory.
My father, furious, blind with pride, declared war.
My Father, My family, all dead now
I am the only one left.
And Hanayama let me live.
But his mercy was never mercy at all. It was a wound left open—festering. Mocking.
He stripped us of everything.
Our name. Our land. Our power.
He took it all without hesitation, the same way he discarded me.
And I smiled through it.
I smiled at the funerals.
Smiled when the elders whispered I was lucky to be spared.
Smiled when they offered to marry me off like a leftover bargaining chip.
But inside?
I burned.
So I found someone who could burn him back.
A man history calls a demon.
A legend with a sword and no leash.
The kind of monster you don't try to tame—you just direct.
Musashi Miyamoto.
The place I found him wasn't a battlefield, but it might as well have been.
An abandoned dojo on the very edge of the city.
Cracked floors. Scorched wood. Bloodstains no one had bothered to clean.
The air stank of dust, sweat—and something older. Primal. Like war itself lived here.
He stood at the center, barefoot. Sword dripping fresh red.
Two men lay at his feet. One groaning. One already gone.
He didn't look at them.
Only me.
"I wasn't expecting visitors," he said as he silenced the last man with a final stroke. "Especially a lady."
I kept my heels quiet against the wood. "I have a request and deal."
His voice was calm, but thick with hunger.
It slithered through the air like cold steel around my spine.
"I know why you're here."
He turned fully now—eyes black, still, ageless.
"I know of you. Sayaka Fujimoto. The orphan of ambition. Or was it pride that got your clan killed?"
"My father got himself killed," I said. "I'm here to make sure someone pays for it."
He grinned. Sharp. Amused. Not friendly.
"Hn. Bold... for a woman dressed in silk."
"His name is Hanayama Kaoru."
Musashi's eyes gleamed. "I've heard of him. The boy with strength like mountains. Bone-breaking hands. A beast who fights like a man."
"He took everything from me."
Musashi didn't blink. Grief didn't reach him. He was older than grief.
"And you want him dead?"
"I want him destroyed," I said. "Broken. Humiliated. I want the world to watch him fall."
He stepped forward—too close.
I smelled the blood on him, the sweat, the iron scent of death that clung to his skin like a second soul.
"I don't take orders."
"I'm not giving them," I said, voice level. "I'm offering a name. A fight."
He smiled like a wolf.
"I'll fight him."
A pause.
"But not for your pain."
He touched the blade at his side, fingers twitching like a man starved.
"I'll enjoy cutting him down."
And right then—I knew.
He wasn't an ally.
He was a weapon.
Hanayama's POV
One night I got home late.
Kizaki was waiting for me at the door, a folder in his hand and something sharper in his eyes.
"Something's off," he said. "Two guys sniffing around old Fujimoto territory. Clean shoes. Pressed collars. Not street muscle."
I took the folder, didn't open it.
"They say who they're with?"
"No names. No ties . But they're asking the right questions. About the takeover. The war."
"You talk to them?"
"No. Just have heard rumors and took notes."
"Hmm."
He hesitated. "Could be nothing. But they're not random."
I nodded letting him know I got his worried message.
Eventually he left and I went to my office,
Still I didn't need to open the folder yet. I already knew what it meant.
Something was shifting.
The kind of shift you don't hear—only feel.
Like the pressure in the air before a storm breaks.
Could be business.
Could be worse.
And if it was worse?
Then someone was about to learn what a bad day really looked like.
I'm tired of people trying to bother me.
I leaned back in my chair, cigarette smoke curling toward the ceiling.
Rubbed the back of my neck, that old knot of tension tightening.
Maybe it was paranoia. Maybe habit.
But something was coming. And when it did, I'd be ready.
