Sayaka's (Saki) POV

Rey and I started texting each other a lot after that.

He was usually too busy to take calls, but he always got back to me eventually.

Sometimes hours later.

Sometimes the next day.

He told me he worked overseas a lot, which explained why we couldn't see each other as often as I would've liked.

But whenever he was back in Japan...

We saw each other.

And whenever we saw each other...

We were always fucking.

Seriously.

It was almost ridiculous.

Sometimes I wondered if that was the only reason we kept meeting.

Except...

It didn't feel like it.

Rey always stayed afterward.

He'd make sure I was okay, bring me something to drink, order food, or just lie around with me while we talked about absolutely nothing.

Sometimes he cooked.

Sometimes we watched terrible movies.

Sometimes he fell asleep on my couch and stayed there until morning.

He never made me feel like we needed to separate immediately after having sex.

There was always this strange tenderness afterward that didn't quite match how casual we kept insisting everything was.

Neither of us called it dating.

Neither of us asked what we were

And for a while, I was perfectly fine with that.

5 months passed

And

There was just one thing about Rey that bothered me.

I knew almost nothing about him.

Not the little things.

Those I knew.

I knew what food he hated.

I knew how he took his coffee.

I knew he rode motorcycles.

I knew he could cook.

I knew he traveled constantly for work.

But the important things?

Nothing.

I didn't know exactly what he did overseas.

I didn't know much about his family.

I didn't know why he sometimes disappeared for days before answering me.

And whenever I asked anything too personal, he had this irritating ability to answer without actually answering.

Which was ironic.

Because I was doing the exact same thing.

He knew me as Saki.

A middle-school teacher.

A woman who liked bookstores, cafés, and occasionally drinking more than she should.
