Ume's POV

After I had the babies, the doctors kept me in the hospital for a few extra days.

One night, after everyone had finally settled down, I decided to video call my godmother.

The triplets were sleeping on my chest, bundled up against me. Prince had somehow claimed my stomach as his bed and was curled up on me like a cat.

Hanayama had stepped outside for a cigarette break.

It was late in Japan, but morning where my godmother lived, so I knew she'd be awake.

The call connected.

"¡Hola, mija! To what do I owe the surprise call?" she greeted cheerfully.

At first, she wasn't looking directly at the screen, busy with something off-camera.

Then she glanced up.

She froze.

"...No me digas..."

I smiled and gave a small nod, careful not to wake the babies.

She covered her mouth.

"...¿Cuándo pasó esto?" (When did this happen?)

"About four days ago," I whispered.

"Oh, mija..." Her eyes immediately softened. "You poor thing. I know you're exhausted. Where's your husband?"

"He finally let me convince him to take a break. He's outside smoking."

She laughed.

"I knew he wouldn't leave your side."

"He hasn't," I admitted with a smile. "He's been attached to me like a tick."

"That's because he's a good man."

She looked at the hospital room again.

"Why are you still there?"

I gently looked down at the tiny babies sleeping against me.

"The doctors want to keep an eye on my little girl. They think she came a little early, so they're running a few more tests."

Her expression melted.

"A baby girl..."

I nodded.

"And two boys."

She blinked.

"...¿Qué?"

"Triplets."

For a second...

She couldn't speak.

Then she threw both hands into the air.

"¡Gracias a Dios! ¡Tres bebés! ¡Tres!"

She began praising God so loudly I instinctively turned my tablet's volume down.

"That's it!" she declared.
"I'm coming over! I'm buying the first ticket to Japan and helping you!"

"Where are you going?" I heard in the background

It was my godfather.

My godmother froze for a moment and looked at me with a worried expression.

She knew I didn't have the best relationship with him. We weren't close, but he had learned to respect my decisions and allowed me to live my life in peace.

I gave her a small nod, letting her know it was okay for him to find out.

She smiled softly before looking over her shoulder.
