Alex's P.O.V

"I'm so sorry." Severus Whispered for the millionth time as we lay in my bed wrapped around one another.

"Stop apologizing." I mumbled as I starred at the ceiling. He gently stroked my hair as he had done for the past hour. The time was nearing seven and he would need to be leaving soon to get ready for breakfast.

"I didn't protect you."

"I would have killed you if you did. Had Tom not gotten to you first."

"I hate when you call him that."

"I'm not going to call him the idiotic name he loves."

"Tom just implies that anything is human about him."

"It pisses him off."

"Which is the last thing you need to do."

"He won't kill me." Severus sighed.

"He can torture you within an inch of your life."

"Yeah..."

"Alex...when Amicuss-"

"I don't want to talk about it." He nodded and looked down.

"I understand."

"So, Harry, Hermione, and Ron are gone. Marrissa, dead. For the first time this year I'm actually alone."

"No you're not."

"How do you figure?"

"You don't think your grandfather would leave you with no one?" I sat up.

"Severus, what are you talking about?"

"In the event something like this happened, because he knew it would, your grandfather arranged for you to have someone by your side this year."

"Who? How did he know I would return?" Severus gave me an unimpressed look.

"We know you better than you think we do."

"Severus who is this person?"

"His name is Derek."

"Derek..?"

"He's your brother, Alex..." I closed my eyes. I honestly didn't have the energy for this any longer. So many secrets. So many lies.

"I was an only child. That's what everyone has always said. I don't understand how suddenly-"

"Calm yourself. Your body can't take any more stress."

"Please explain before I lose what little I have left of my mind." I mumbled as I rest my head in my hands. Severus sat up and very gently wrapped his arms around me so not to hurt me.

"Your mother... Your parents were very young when they married. Your mother was a good woman. She loved your father. You never doubt that. She loved your father and she loved you. Do not let this change what you think about them. About... A year and a half before you were conceived your mother had an affair. As I understand it was one time. Your brother was conceived. No one knew about him. The Dumbledore name has always been a famous one. Your grandfather, at that time, the last thing he needed was a family scandal. The man agreed. He moved away after your bother was born. Your parents told everyone they lost the baby and no one really spoke of it much more. Your father always saw to it they were taken care of and your parents mended their relationship. Dumbledore continued to make sure they were take care of after your parents death and left them a generous amount of money in his will. Along with a letter. Explaining we needed his help. You brother started school late. Due to health complications. He's fine now, but he was very ill when he was young. He's in your year and goes to Koldovstoretz Wizarding School in Russia. He was raised there. He's agreed to transfer here and join the Order. He should arrive sometime today. Basically he will be your body guard. And... he is definitely the one for the job. He is a master of Defense against the Dark Arts. Not only that, but I also read he excels in potions and herbology. You two must have a lot in common." My head was spinning. A brother... when I thought al of my family was dead.. A brother.

"Well alright.."

"What are you thinking, love?"

"I'm thinking this family has too many secrets. Anymore I should know about?"

"Well..."

"Damn it..."

"You have a great uncle. It's not a secret. He's had nothing to do with your family for ages."

"I cant' even focus on that right now. A brother, Severus..."

"I know, Darling. But... right now. You need rest. You're still healing. You'll be able to meet him tomorrow. I know it's a lot to wrap your head around..."

"Honestly, I'm used to it at this point." Sev sighed.

"I know...I hate that."

"I'll be okay."

"Come here, love." He gently lay us down. "I have a little more time. I want you to rest. Are you still in pain?" I lay my head on his chest and closed my eyes.

"Nothing I can't handle."

We stayed like that for a while until the darkness took me over. The darkness felt nice. If only it would last.
