Christmas wasn't Christmas anymore. There was no Molly. No Order. No Dad. Just death eaters. Most people were home wit their families. Even death eaters. There were a few of us who stayed at the mansion. Not many. Deverose and I have lessons every single day. I wake up, I shower, and i go to train. We train until the sin goes down. Sometimes even late into the night. Sleep didn't treat either of us well.

Deverose was fair in his training, but firm. Sometimes it was hard. He didn't take it easy on me. I wouldn't expect him too. I quickly threw my hair into a ponytail and went down stairs. The hallways were empty and cold. What a Christmas this would be. I descended the stairs quickly and made my way outside to the back of the mansion. There was a field there that Deverose and I had been using to train. The ground was especially hard when my ass fell on it, but it would be worth it in the end. Deverose was sitting on the ground playing with blades of grass. When he saw me he looked up and smiled. "Alex, Merry Christmas."

"Yeah, Merry Christmas. Come on. Lets get going. There are only so many hours in the day." Deverose laughed as he stood up and brushed himself off.

"It's seven am. We have time." I shook my head.

"When is the war going to start?" He looked at me quizzically.

  "I don't-" I cut him off.

"You don't know. Exactly. Neither do I, but i want to be as well prepared as possible." I said as i pulled out my wand. Deverose looked at my wand and smiled.

"As you wish, but you won't be needing that."

"My wand? Why?"

"Today we study hand to hand combat."

"Can you explain why?"

"Because Alex, when you do what you have planned Death eaters are going to come at you left and right. Most of them won't have their wands due to the impact. They will do whatever it takes to take you down. You need to learn to fight." I sighed.

"Very well." I put my wand away.

"Hit me." He said with his hands behind his back.

"This is going to be the best lesson yet." I stepped for ward to Deverose. Just as i pulled my arm back to swing Deverose moved in one quick motion and grabbed my arm, spinning me around, and holding my arm behind my back and me against him.

   "And now you're dead."

  "That wasn't fair!"

"Life isn't fair. Get used to it. Again." I cautiously stepped forward and went to punch Deverose in the jaw. He went for my arm, but this time i ducked my body and he missed his first attempt. I was about to make contact when he grabbed my neck. Deverose kicked my feet out from under me and threw me on the ground by my neck. I groaned quietly. "Again! Keep your eyes open Alex. Watch where I'm going. You have to know what I'm going to do before I do i do it."

"How the hell do you expect me to do that."

"The same way i knew you were going to duck. Your eyes. They tell your every move. You looked down. Then ducked. Again." I pulled myself of the ground and looked at Deverose. I watched his every little movement. When I moved, so did he. But only slightly. This time i led with my left arm instead of my right and I made sure my eyes stayed locked with his. I threw my left hand and hit Deverose in the jaw.

"Yes!" I stepped back and before i knew it Deverose ran at me and grabbed my shoulder. He kicked my feet out from under me and I began to fall. I grabbed onto his collar and Deverose came with me. I tried to fight my way to the top, but he held me down.
