Though he tried—desperately—Remus couldn't remember his last conversation with his mother. He reached through the crevices of his brain, grasping at the endlessness of it all, searching for a face or kind word or the feeling of their last embrace, but he couldn't sort it. The memory was gone in a pop.

Remus and Sydney landed in a bramble atop Sirius, who, it appeared by the looks of his hair, had been sleeping. Sirius groaned, cursed, and promptly rolled so Remus and Sydney slid off of him. They'd just apparated to the Potter's for the second week of their spring holiday and apparently Remus had missed his mark. He'd been aiming for the space in front of James's living room fireplace.

"Sorry, Pads," Remus said lightly. "Guess my aim is still a bit spotty."

"At least I still have a head," Sydney said sardonically, feeling around herself to be sure she was intact. Remus rolled his eyes and pushed her a little. She glared at him as if she hadn't been joking.

"I'll go tell the lads that you're here," Sirius said.

Hunched from the pain, he waddled towards the door. Just as he was about to reach it, though, it swung back at him and thwacked him right in the forehead. Remus's hand flew to his mouth just in time for Syd to drop to the floor beside him, having been rightly tackled by James and Peter.

Remus was just glad it wasn't him. He glanced over at Sirius and found his friend overtly flicking off the door, as though it cared. Sirius repeated the gesture twice and then stood straight, huffed, fixed his hair, locked eyes with Remus, and was taken out yet again by the girls rushing to greet Sydney and Remus as well. They each quickly hugged Remus, though he paid them little mind as he was preoccupied trying not to piss himself watching Sirius reduced to the floor.

James and Peter apparently turned their greeting into a wrestling match, so Remus turned to help Syd off the ground. The girls took her from his grasp almost immediately. It was all a proper Potter-house welcome, if Remus had ever seen one.

"Syd, we missed you!" cried the girls together, quite highly pitched. "Did you shag yet?!"

Remus laughed a bit as Sydney rolled her eyes and shoved her friends away. She straightened out her clothes and hair and stared pointedly at Marlene.

"Would you stop asking me that?" she pleaded.

Marlene put up her hands. "Fine!" She immediately looked over her shoulder. "Did you shag yet?" she asked Remus soundlessly. Remus opened his mouth to respond, but Sydney was already shoving Marlene.

"What did I just say?" she asked, laughing.

"You said I couldn't ask you!" Marlene tried. "No one said anything about Remus."

James and Peter were on their feet now, ready to rejoin society. "It is valuable information, Syd," he said. He clapped Remus on the shoulder as a 'hello.'
