Jacob's fingertip slowly traced along my jaw, sending tiny shivers down my spine. Unaware of my reaction, he trailed his finger up the side of my face and lightly across my forehead before changing course mid movement and brushing down my nose instead. I scrunched my face up a little as he did and a soft chuckle escaped him. I kept my eyes closed, content to just soak in the moment and let him be sweetly playful. He moved his feather light touch to my lips, tracing the shape of them. The pad of his finger was surprisingly soft and as he drew it across my lips, I gave it a brief kiss. The bed suddenly shifted beneath me, signaling that he was moving, and I opened my eyes.
He had simply propped himself up on one arm, smiling fondly down at me. He wasn't going anywhere, I noted silently. Not until the pack showed up at least.
"You're so beautiful," He murmured.
I scrunched up my face again, shaking my head aggressively. "You're just saying that because I'm your imprint."
"No, I'm being completely serious," He argued lightly. We'd had this conversation before, due to my being terrible at taking compliments, and so he knew exactly where it would end up.
"Yes, but you're still biased," I pointed out with a cheesy smile.
"Biased, in love, and did I mention I had a crush on you before I imprinted on you?"
I blinked twice, stunned. That was new information. "You did?"
"Yeah." He brushed the backs of his fingers down the side of my face. "I'd seen you a bunch of times before, mostly at Burger King while you were on shift. I'd always thought you were pretty, but way out of my league. I guess the universe didn't agree."
"I guess not," I grinned at him. Sliding my hand into his, I entwined our fingers. "So you thought I was pretty before, huh? Are you sure it wasn't just a pre-imprinting thing?"
He gave me a halfhearted glare. "Yes, I'm sure. Pre-imprinting thing. Where do you come up with this stuff?"
I shrugged. "It just emerges from my brain and wanders out of my mouth."
He threw back his head and laughed a deep, hearty laugh. I couldn't help but laugh with him, mine being far higher pitched than his. Once his laughter had subsided some, he leaned down and brushed a kiss to my temple.
"I love you," He whispered into my hair.
"I love you, too," I murmured.
Pushing up onto my elbows, I lifted myself off of the mattress so I could properly kiss his warm lips. He freed his hand from mine, pulling my body closer to him so we were on a better angle. I may have started the kiss, but he took control quickly, his lips gently pushing mine apart. His tongue slipped into my mouth, exploring the space that he already knew well but seemed to like traveling anyway. I let my tongue join in as well, hungrily kissing him back. My hands slid over his shoulders to the back of his neck so my fingers could play with his short hair. His hands didn't roam like they normally did, instead they just focused on holding me close to him. I practically melted into the moment, wanting it to last forever.
Of course, the moment I thought that, a howl went up in the woods outside the bedroom window. With a sigh, he broke the kiss. Resting his forehead against my own, he let out a small groan.
"I guess," He muttered.
I giggled, pecking his lips before lightly pushing him away. "Go do all that wolfy stuff."
"It sounds ridiculous when you put it like that," He chuckled again as he slid off the bed and pulled his t-shirt over his head.
"It sounds nicer than 'go kill some bloodsuckers'," I pointed out.
He leaned back over the mattress to give me another quick kiss. "Fair point. Be good while I'm gone?"
I flopped back down on the bed and gave him my most innocent smile. "Like you have to worry."
He looked out at the dreary, rainy, dark day and nodded. He knew me well; a day like this was made for movies and ice cream in bed. He headed for the door, pausing in the doorway to look back at me as another howl echoed from outside.
"I love you, baby."
I smiled fondly at him. "I love you, too, my wolf boy."
