Reader's POV

The shrill scream made us pull away from our hug. I immediately ran towards the window, startled by the disturbance.

"Alicia?! Alicia!" I opened the window and screamed.

Only silence responded. By now, the sky had turned indigo, so it was a little hard to see, but I saw it. I saw it all.

I saw Alicia's remains on the sidewalk while blood pooled around her body. Praying that it wasn't my best friend, dead on the ground, I ran to the door and opened it recklessly. I bolted up to her body and I couldn't believe my eyes.

When I got to her, she was... Scattered. One of her legs were missing, while one of her arms was brutally twisted. Her other limbs were drenched in blood. There was a gaping wound in her stomach, and her face had shown absolute despair.

"Damn!" I heard Killua, who was suddenly next to me curse. "Whoever did this-"

"Is going to die a brutal death." I growled through gritted teeth, immediately furious about the death of my best friend. But shortly after, a tear dripped from one of my eyes. After all, I'll never hear her childish, yet endearing conplaints again. And I'll never see her smile again.

More tears dripped down and I wiped them away furiously. Because crying won't help now.

I knew who the culprit was. It was 'that' pe- no, bastard! 'That' bastard killed my best friend! And the worst part is, I have no way of finding them.

"Y/n." Killua whispered. "You can cry if you need to. I know you do."

I clenched my fists tightly and tried to stop the tears from flowing down. "I knew I shouldn't have let 'them' run loose..." I muttered, hatred dripping from my voice.

Sadness, hatred... They're both common when faced with a body. Happiness is common as well. It's either because you're a sadist, or because you're relieved that the soul is at peace finally. 'That bastard' is filling me with all three emotions. Happiness, because I now have a reason to go after that son of a bitch.

Anger and sadness, you should know.

I slowly attempted to dig into my pocket... Until I saw the ring that now adorned my ring finger. And then I realized. It won't be like the time I lost the rest of my family, where I'm alone, and I managed to find very little leads. I have Killua and Alluka. Killua will certainly be a worthy asset, and a satisfactory consort. But he's more than an asset... He's the one I need.

Alluka will be able to make me smile, what with all her ridiculous comments and laughable jokes.

Man, if I ever have a daughter, she'll have one hell of a family. (Guess who that daughter is!)

The point is, I'm much stronger than I was. And when I find 'that bastard'... I'll end him.

Killua's POV (play music)

I was starting to worry about y/n. Her once peaceful and comforting aura turned into something more corrupted, more... Angry. It reminded me of Gon's reaction to Kite.

I gulped. There was no reason to worry about something like that again. By now, Y/n knows that I'm still here for her, still there to keep her safe even if she has the crazy desire to run ahead without me like Gon did.

Still, I'm scared. Of what? Of losing Y/n? Nah, that's ridiculous. She knows that she still has me and Alluka, right? Right?

I looked over my shoulder at the h/c girl from the couch. She was sitting at the dining table with a perturbed expression on her face. I clenched my fist tightly. That won't happen again. I'll be more open this time, since it's y/n. I stood up forcefully and went over to her.

"Y/n." I whispered as I walked behind her and wrapped my arms around her neck. "It's alright."

Now she was looking at the window as the curtains flickered with red and blue lights from outside. She didn't say anything.

"It's alright." I repeated.

"I know." She replied stiffly, slowly taking one of my hands. "But I'm not going out there." She was talking about the investigation.

I smiled despite the fact that she couldn't see it. "I'll go out there with you."

Unexpectedly, she laughed quietly. "I'm a criminal, remember? Going to the police is like a moth flying into the flame."

"Hey, it's not like I'm completely spotless either."

She stood up from her seat. "Are you seriously telling me to go out there?"

I unwrapped my arms from her neck and hardened my expression. "I said I'd go out there with you, didn't I? Let's go before I smack your ass."

She blushed fiercely and covered her backside with two hands. "No-!"

I smirked and raised my hands and grabbed the air. "Oh, look, your breasts are open~. Better watch out, y/n~."

Her e/c eyes widened and she crossed her arms in front of her chest defensively. "Get away, damn you!"

"Just kidding, baby~. No need to get so mad~." I purred.

"The hell you were!!" She retorted.

I lowered my hands and smiled. "I got you, admit it~."

After glaring at me for two seconds, she slowly smiled that beautiful smile. "Okay, you got me."

"But your body is eye candy for men. Put on something less revealing." I commanded, letting some of my jealousy and protectiveness take over.

"Less revealing?? This," She looked down at her clothes. "Is revealing?" She was wearing a (color) skirt that went up to her knees and a (color) short sleeved shirt. In her book, that looked more than fine, but in my book, I say get your ass upstairs and wear something else.

"Tights aren't an option." I crossed my arms.

"What?! Why?"

"It shows your ass."

She gaped at me.

"Shorts are acceptable."

"You're unbelievable."

"T'is necessary for your safety." I smiled widely.

"Safety! Safety, he says! Safety for what?!" She threw her hands into the air.

"Now hurry up and change."
